He's been riding in Quebec doing nationals races in Bromont and in Ste-Anne.Won both and you'd think it should give him a head start.

Never been a huge fan of Sam myself but I miss watching him smash it everywhere, seems to me like he's been off the track this season for some reason, hopefully all of this training should help.

If he doesnt take the next 2 races or at least make the podium Im going to make the call and say his Demo is the worst bike in the history of DH ...lol:D

He has a great shot at Bromont but I am going to say Minnaar or Peat for MSA.

I can't wait to be up there for both of those!!!!

Yes, he won those races. But take a look at the results sheets. They weren't exactly stacked with other WC contenders ( not trying to detract from his wins, but there weren't many other big guns there so to speak). But I do believe you are correct, he took the time between WC events to focus and be better prepared for the upcoming WC's.

He had a great result at FT. William so I think there is a possibility at st. anne. Especialy that he is capable of winning there. Still I don't see him winning the overall this year. I'd want to but looking at the points differance he'd need a little help from Peaty and Greg ;)

Here's what I was able to find on UCI's site:
http://www.uci.html.infostradasports.com/cache/2/TheASP.asp@PageID=19007&TaalCode=2&StyleID=0&SportID=304&CompetitionID=15692&EventID=9546&GenderID=1&ClassID=1&SeasonID=476&EventPhaseID=539871&Phase1ID=0&ContainerEventID=9546&Detail=1&Cache=2.html?629726

According to that Hill is up 3 points on Peat and Minaar is in the lead.

I believe that is the 'world ranking' not the World Cup standings.

or not? do they do the world ranking scam thing anymore?

That's kinda what I suspected, the point totals seemed a little on the high side. That and there is a second number in parenthesis by the ranking, which is not always the same.
The UCI website has always been a bit of a joke...I think those numbers you posted are the nissan world cup totals, so you are right, the totals just do seem so high? who knows.

I haven't been able to google up the actual standings. The internet has failed us, and racing is going to collapse.

I guess it all won't matter anyways, since Sam will be winning the world cup overall in 3 weeks after his 2 big canada wins...according to the OP.

Congrats Sam, you earned it!

It's the overall rankings.

This is the world cup points list:
http://www.uci.ch/templates/BUILTIN-NOFRAMES/Template3/layout.asp?MenuId=MTU2OTI&LangId=1

I'm suprised as the differance is smaller than I thought. Wining 2 races while Greg and Peaty do a bit worse and win is still possible for him.
Link was acting funky (for me at least), but here's the breakdown (points is last column):

1 2 MINNAAR Greg RSA19811113 SCB 914
2 1 PEAT Steve GBR19740617 SCB 835
3 5 HILL Samuel AUS19850721 MER 789
4 3 ATHERTON Gee GBR19850226 ANC 776
5 4 HANNAH Michael AUS19831121 GTB 723
6 7 LEOV Justin NZL19841020 TRK 551
7 8 FAIRCLOUGH Brendan GBR19880110 MER 482
8 6 BLENKINSOP Samuel NZL19881028 YET 476
9 10 SMITH Steve CAN19891125 MSE 411
10 11 NEETHLING Andrew RSA19840805 TRK 398

It's not a joke just because you can't figure it out stik, it's all pretty straightforward really.

right here -> .
Funny. barel did something similar in his two world champ wins, and people all but accused him of cheating.

Funny how favoritism works.
This is true. Fabian didn't really get the credit he deserved. Isn't Rennie doing the same thing now......training for the World Champ this year (granted, different circumstances)? (rhetorical question)

Anyway, it would be exciting to see Sam light it up.

It's not only his opinion. I see really a lot of ppl confuse the uci standings with WC standings and a lot of ppl complaining that they can't find what they look for.

It's harder to find something specyfic on that page than it was to google manitou page up to a year ago (they invested some money in positioning finally)

Pretty sure Sam only did one race at Bromont. There was no National race at MSA it was in Le Massif and I dont think he raced in it.

funny people only remember what they want to remember.

both fabien and sam raced the oceana champs ot the new zealand track the winter prior to sam winning worlds there

in italy (fabien's second win) the who world cup circus raced the track the prior year as the WC final (fabien won that fresh off of his les gets world champ win)

the whole circuit has raced st anne's track for the last many many years and all those guys could pin it in their sleep.

as for bromont, sam and his team have stayed there the last three years between world cup rounds as sort of their home base and it just happens to have a WC round

again bromont was raced by everyone lasy year, is 95% the same track again this years, etc.

dont over think it fellas... would you say the same thing for the huge number of riders and teams that stop off in schladming during the break between races?

The only place I have seen a mention of the MSA race is on Hill's blog on iamspecialized. Pinkbike had a race report from Bromont but that's all I have seen.
