So a buddy of mine has a set of the Schwalbe MM's in the DH 2.50 GGC. They seem to be large for 2.50. I set it next to a maxxis 2.7 and its the same dang size almost. Is the 2.35 Schwab a maxxis 2.5 equivalent? Cause i'd like to pick up a set of these bad boys but not 2.5 honkers. Any info would be great.

Got something against 2.5 honkers!!!! LOL

Yes the 2.35 is the same as a 2.5 maxxis (maybe a micro smidge smaller than the maxxis).
2.35 DH Guey Gluey MMs are sold out in DH till the 2011 stuff arrives in January unless you have a dealer with some in stock in which case if they have the 2010s on closeout then Id say go for it....

Last count I got was 1 2.35 triple 2.35 DH in stock and Im sure its gone by now... Big Bettys are due in in the vert star next week and the rest 2nd week of january if all stays on track..

i thought my 2.5 big betty / muddy mary combo worked great. great traction but wears fast. supposedly they made some improvements to the compound for 2011 and should be alittle more longer lasting.
Big betty rear and MM front is a smokin combo Im going back to it for the start of the winter season here.... Been running the MM rear and want a tad less profile for the rear.... Yes the vert stars are coming, BB DH in vert star will be here next week and mine should be on my doorstep on the 23rd...

They apparently roll better, wear better, have softer shoulders and improved effeciency over the 2010 stuff... I loved the 2010 stuff yes it wears its a race tire that grabs a handfull of trail and wants more... So Im pretty excited to get a xmas ride on them......

Anyone thats familiar with the muddymarys can attest to the ripping noise it makes as its churning earth....

I have nothing against 2.5 honkers just prefer something a tad smaller haha.

The big betty rear and muddy mary front sounds like a pretty dirty combo. May have to try that out. Im assuming the bit betty is just as grippy as the MM?

Has anyone found a place to buy the 2.35 DH casing MM in Triple Nano? I used the MM all season and really liked the performance. I really didn't like how fast the center knobs on the back tire wore out. I think the Triple Nano MM in the rear would be perfect, but I wasn't able to find any place to buy them. I think I'm going back to Minions for next year unless I can find a the DH casing 2.35 MM in Triple Nano (or whatever they're calling it for 2011).

They sold out of 2.35s till 2nd week of january the new shipment is due in and the wear properties are supposed be better. yes a triple will wear alot longer than a gg... The new compounds are pretty sick from what I have heard and gathered Ill have a little run time on the new vert star this coming week.... Ill see how they compare with an initial...

Yes... vertstar is softer shoulders and gg center better rolling characteristics and supposed to last better as well. I have some big bettys due in this week as well as the muddy marys 2 weeks from now... really excited took the good stuff and made it better mixed with longer life.... id rock it e en with quicker wear the grip is just too good....

Indeed!

EVIL picked up Schwalbe as a tire sponsor and Steve and the crew were running some pre-production Vert Star compound MM's at Windham.

Steve said he loved how they hooked up and felt very comfortable with them (these were the 2.35's)

From what I could tell from giving the new compound a "finger squeeze" test the new Vert Star is both softer and gummier than the GG compound and has a slower rebound. It feels a bit like a Maxxis 42a ST but doesn't deflect as easily.

Any shanges to the WW? I have been running the 2.5 up front with 2.5 maxxis hr in the rear works really well when the conditions are super dry. I would like to give the mm a try but i think I might try 2.35s

From Schwalbe site:
Schwalbe has optimized the inner strength of its MTB tires: In 2011 all top models will have new, Triple Star compounds. It is a modular system whereby three of six new individual compounds are cleverly combined. All tires are now "Tubeless Ready".

"We have decisively advanced the principle of triple compounding," explained Schwalbe technician, Markus Hachmeyer. In countless laboratory and practical tests, a total of six highly-specialist, unique compounds emerged. These were then combined as Triple Star compounds, which precisely suit the relevant application. And they are now even more practical: All new versions are now `Tubeless Ready´. Simply by adding a liquid puncture sealant they can be made into Tubeless tires (ca. 5 grams extra). Previously, there had been just two compounds available in the Schwalbe MTB range: Triple Nano for MTB Race and All Mountain, plus a choice of Triple Nano, or Glooey Gluey for Downhill, Freeride and Enduro.
Lately Enduro bikes with about 160 millimeters of suspension travel have become more popular. And while a race tire primarily has to roll well and be light, a Downhill tire needs outstanding grip and puncture protection, however Enduro tires require a combination of all these properties.
In order to specifically target these different requirements, there are now three, all-new Triple Star compounds:

PaceStar - for MTB Race, All Mountain and Tour. Super-fast with a combination of low rolling resistance and durability. The tire shoulders were made appreciably softer to improve handling on rough terrain.

TrailStar - for Enduro and Freeride. Triple Nano compound was unsuitable performance-wise and the rolling resistance of Gooey Gluey was too high. TrailStar has substantially more grip, better damping and handling control. Nevertheless, the compound is not overly heavy, making it suitable for climbing too.

VertStar - for Downhill and Freeride. It is a further development of the Gooey Gluey compound, but now even softer with extremely good damping properties.

Each Triple Star compound consists of three unique compounds
All three Triple Compounds have the same, extremely elastic base compound under the tread that makes the tires fast. All other desired properties are achieved by placing a specially selected compound in the tread center and on the tire shoulders - a different one for each intended purpose.
Yet how are compounds like this developed? "Compounding is an art in itself," explained Markus Hachmeyer. Any rubber compound contains over 20 different variables. A bit more here, a tad less there and the rolling resistance, or hardness changes. Many factors, such as grip and rolling resistance, actually contradict each other. If one value improves, the other automatically gets worse. Furthermore there are other desirable properties such as damping, durability and cut resistance to take into consideration. .
"Trying to achieve all these features in a single rubber compound at the same time simply does not work!" stated the tire technician. Therefore, combining several unique rubber compounds to improve the counteracting characteristics is the ideal solution.
Not only were three Triple Star Compounds developed, but also six unique compounds had to be created anew - in the most extensive laboratory and practical tests Schwalbe ever devised.
The new Schwalbe MTB tires with Triple Star compounds will be available from specialist bicycle dealers in Autumn 2010.
