For what it's worth, I've been using SLX and Deore 12 speed chains without much rust. First, I 100% degrease them with brake cleaner, then dry completely, then saturate with Squirt, then dry, then ride, then reapply when needed after a few dry chain cleaner passes without degreaser. I don't ride much in rain, but I hose my bike from time to time and never had much rust.
That said, if the inner links are fine (which they seem to be), I'd run it until it's worn enough to replace by your standards.
