I've been running Shimano DX since last July and they're still in good shape...And I use'em for everything (FR, XC, DH)...In terms of quality, they're the best shoe I've ever worn - and pretty comfortable as well...Certainly not as stiff as a straight up XC shoe, but you can walk in these with no problems...

Only downside for me is the lack of a high top model...Lately I've been rubbing (i.e. smashing) my left ankle into the crank arm on techy DH runs, and it's quite bothersome...So much so, I've resorted to wedging a wrist band between the top of the shoe and my ankle...But, it's mainly b/c I tend to move my feet around during runs...Overall, the DXs are great shoes IMO...

great review but i think he is refering the to pedals.

i donno about the v12s, but the shimano dx are a great pedals. the seals are good, i have seen 4 yr old pedals still with clean shimano grease in it. never been serviced before. you need to use the long pins, the short ones are just too short. i think the body is alu?, where as the v12 are mag. and ppl complain that the pins get ripped out when you hit rocks. so it might be a durability issue.

HA! :clue:

Oh well, please disregard my above post...Carry on, nothing to see here...

But really, it does seem odd that Shimano has a pedal and a shoe with the exact same name...Although, I have to admit, the sealed bearings in my DX shoes are still nice and smooth :monkey:

DX is an entire product line, which at various times over the past 20 years has included hubs, cranks, brakes and levers, In addition to the flat and clipless pedals.

Nice...And in case anybody was wondering, I feel really dumb right now... :teacher:

I mean I've never even heard of DX cranks, hubs, brakes, etc...Thus, I should prolly refrain from posting on, well, pretty much anything (except about things relating to poop and internet porn - I am a certified expert in these fields)...

DX has been Shimano's BMX race group since the days of Cru Jones. The only DX parts for the last 2-3 years are the hubs and pedals, and for a while LX brakes painted red.

Some of the original stuff from the 80's has Immense resale value, such as the original pedals, and the oversized splined cranks with offset pedal bosses.

Shimano is releasing a group for '07 called DXR, which is basically a full BMX race group again. I wouldn't want shimano stuff on my MTB, but I would rock that stuff on my Bitchin Camaro

I have had the MTB DX flat pedals for 4 years now, never had a problem with them, bearings are smooth, they spin for days, pretty light, pins can become hard to remove but aren't too bad. They are sorta pricey compared to other pedals out there, but in that same range.

I'd get them again, they feel great too with any skate shoe. It's weird having 3 different sets of pedals on 3 different bikes. I always like the way the DX's feel over the others (trail kings and 5050xx's)

I love them. Been running the same pair that came stock on my 01 DHi, so 4.5 years I guess. No new grease, 2 sets of new pins. The alu body is a little soft, but I've probably glanced them off hundreds of rocks and only gotten scratches. Just last week I spent two hours salvaging the pedals with a dremmel and a small screwdriver, but only because I was lazy and didn't replace the pins before they were mashed almost flush with the body.

In fact, I love shimano pedals in general. I still have an original set of 646s, the set with the red metal cage and black interior. The springs are FINALLY starting to wear out, but I've been running them since around 96 or 97. THAT is durability.

So shimano is no.1 choice. I was reading mbuk review on pedals and they gave V12 ten of ten and dx got 8 of 10 verdic. Why??? Maybe DMR payed more for review?

My V12's are great, I have 3 other sets of DMR's too. Not one problem with them in years and year of running them, spares are dirt cheap and plentiful too.

I think the problem with trying to get an review here is the fact that the DMR products aren't as prevalent here this side of the pond. I saw the review you were talking about, and it interested me too since they are sweet looking pedals.

I was speaking to one guy who does reviews for one mag, and he told me that situation is like this: You get two bikes from different dealers, then you speak to them and you see who will pay more. Then you get the money, and in the review you know who will get the better rating.... That's the way it goes so don't trust any mag's review cause it's all business...

ive done reviews for mbuk before, le toy 3 and stuff.

legally we cant actually slate anything cos its libelous if something comes in thats an absolute dog and we say so, cos afterall its one persons opinion, we jus send it back and tell them whats up with it and they usually refine and return.

but back to the question there certainly is some favouritism goes on but not to the point of bribery.
