So I'm picking up a 12 ga. shotgun as a 20th birthday present to myself. My friends and I have been shooting skeet fairly regularly the past few months and I'd like to invest in my own gun.
I checked out my local gun shop (which is awesome btw) and narrowed it down to three in my price range ($200-$300)
A new Maverick (Mossberg) 88 security
A used but immaculate Winchester 1300
Or a used Remington 1100 that could use a new finish on the wood, but is in otherwise good condition
Edit:the one I'm looking at is the right handed model, not left handed like the picture.
All have similar features with the exception of the Remington being an autoloader. The Maverick has the largest round capacity (I won't be hunting with it and if I do I'll add a plug) but also has the shortest barrel which may not be good for skeet. Could I just use a tighter choke to compensate? This one also felt the best in my hands. I have a lot of experience with a 1300 since that's what we've been shooting, but it's pretty heavy and is kind of uncomfortable to hold, so is the 1100. The 1100 felt very similar to the 1300 in my hands, and I do like the idea of an autoloader but I don't know if it's worth buying the gun since it needs some cosmetic work, the finish is worn off the foregrip and stock.
Here's me shooting my buddy's 1300. The one I'm looking at is pretty much identical. Not as comfortable to hold as the Maverick though..
