I'm building an SS street/DJ bike, but I haven't decided on gearing yet. I'd like to use as small a chainring as possible. Thinking of a 34t chainring with 16t and 17t cogs on a flip-flop hub. Or maybe 36t w/ 16t/18t. Any thoughts?

I'm assuming you mean for a 20" wheel..if you want to use a 34t up front you're going to have to go a lot smaller in the rear...something like a 12t-13t.....unless you like spinning......D
I use a 38 up front and have a flip-flop hub with a 17 and 16 tooth cog on back. 16 for racing, 17 for dj'ing. Pretty much the perfect gearing for me for both applications. Also run 26" tires on my Gimp.
