I thought it was frickin' awesome -- the new course is the tits! I was disappointed at first, on Saturday a.m. when it was still muddy, but once it was a little burned in and the sun dried it out, Sunday brought about some awesome riding, and I was stoked as hell. It did suck getting home at midnight though...

Hell
yea, the (sport) course was really good, and tacky on sunday. Harshest trail(at speed) i've ever been on for sure.

I loved it! the Expert course was awesome. The Freeride was okay, short and not as flowing as I had hoped for but still a lot of fun. I found myself thinking I was going way too fast on the sport course when I rode it. I've come to the conclusion that I just dont know how to race. He!! I cant even ride!

Thanks for the complements on the pro/ex course guys. When Trevyn and I walked that side (can't tell you how many times in all) we knew we were onto something. There is so much potential over there, using both the best of old trails and new stuff, I simply cannot wait to start tapping into that potential. Although the reminants of the hurricane left it a little wet for Saturday, I think everyone got to see exactly how much fun that course is when it's tacky and/or dry like it got on Sunday. Before the rains, that course was actually dusty and once the trail crew got it all cut and we started riding it, we knew it was a winner.

Major props must go out to the trail crew, they spent countless hours clearing, armoring, building, and benching stuff out just for this race. I unfortunately wasn't able to really help "build" the course, but I was stoked that something I had some input on the layout of got great review. Hopefully Trevyn and I will be able to layout many more trails in the near future to keep everyone anxiously waiting for the '05 mtb season.

Thanks to all who came and raced "Mayhem" and to all those that came throughout the entire mtb season here at Snowshoe.

I must have lucked out when I rode up there in July -- it was alot drier so I was a bit surprised by the mud at first. But, for my first race (second if you count the Shed Six Pack), it was a blast. The "Super D" course was more suited to a DH bike -- I did my practice run on a trail bike (Trek Liquid) and was afraid I was going to smash it to bits. The ability to pedal uphill was completely negated by the rocks on the way down. And the Beginner's course was perfect for this first-timer (in full armor, of course) -- no broken bones and the only thing the bike needed was a good wash. :thumb: Everybody was great, but I am glad I wasn't trying to follow a schedule 'CUZ IT DID NOT EXIST!!!

I had a great time for my first race. Only complaint I had was that my time was incorrectly posted which made me think that I had won. Only at awards was it changed to what I guess is the correct time. Ended up with second in my class but the two junior classes were merged together so I got third on the podium. Doesn't matter much to me though because the race was a lot of fun. I'll definitely be back soon. Maybe next time I'll be fast.

Interesting, because I thought the opposite. There were too many pedaling sections and climbs where my DH bike would have been an anchor. Mikey had the fast time on a Heckler, which I thought was the perfect bike for it.

only a half hour before his dh run jon (dhanamal) was jra and pulled his deraileur out of the hanger, we should all be so lucky that he wasnt able to race cause his massive torque would have decimated the field.

They modified the June National DH course a ton. No more flat mud bog, very little flat sections, berms on the off camber turns, and of course the weather cooperated. They added this really sweet boulder section near the top in the first rock section.

Drop into the woods hit the boulder, also used in June.

Ride some steep singletrack for a hundred feet or so, then launch this one. It was the 90 degree rock turn drop from the 01-03 National course.

Then hit this section, roll up onto the far boulder, then hop over to the closer rock then drop.

A few line choices

Snowshoe can be nice when you're up here later in the year, after monsoon season.

Shaums railing the flat turn near the top.

Marvin Scanland hitting a drop close to the bottom.

Shaums avoiding the drop, faster line.

Of course yo. I couldn't get the balls to hit the stepdown in big rhythm section, other than that I was bustin' out. Morgan was smooth as ever, showing how it's done.

If you guys want to know any of the results or times just call here at the shop and we have a list sitting right by the phone. Mountain Adventure Center (304) 572-5917. Or shoot out a name and I can PM you with the results. don't count on seeing it on ride.snowshoemtn.com anytime soon.

I don't have a scanner here at the shop and there are over 30 pages. each age/class is on a separate sheet. for pro-expert downhill, sport DH, Beginner DH, MTX and SUper D. BIG headache :help: ! I'll make a spreadsheet tomorrow at work....but if you could be a little more specific of what your looking for it would save me a lot of time. plus they are the unofficial results....so I can't guarantee the times are correct.

Well there are always sandbaggers in every age group. Were the expert and sport courses the same or different? By time alone he would of won the Expert class too.

Unofficial Results
OK -- for y'alls that have been doing this a while -- can someone please explain what "Unofficial Results" means??? They passed out awards based on these results, so there must be some "officialness" to them.
I did notice that the results posted at the bottom of the hill were pretty different than those at the top (at least in the 30-39 Beginner), and I can understand "first cut" information being updated -- but the results at the top of the hill during the awards ceremony were also marked "Unofficial" (which looks to be the same information Robin has so kindly posted).
Also -- is it normal for the results at the bottom to be different thatn those at the top???
Inquiring minds want to know!!!
thx --
