I figured someone here would know the answer to this. Is it possible to use a shimano hone crankset with a spanish bottom bracket shell? A lot of dj mtbs these days seem to be going in that direction.
-Thanks
Not possible. Hones run off OBB's. you MAY be able to find a bearing distributor who can hook you up with some awkward sized bearings, but with that you will also have to get some sort of spacers made up to take up the space of the OBB"s on the BB spindle. Overall, I think it would be un-intelligent as it would put extra stress on the crankset being used as it was not designed. Also I do believe the BB spindle is machined to accept the bearing on a certain surface of the spindle. Just my .02cents.
Thanks, that makes sense. Now that leads me to a follow up question. Is there anyway to run a chainguide with a spanish bb if the bike has no iscg mounts? Essentially, is it possible to use an iscg adapter plate with this setup? Sorry for the excessive questions.
