I want to move to BC!!!
Hi crew,

Finally my bike is complete. I got rid of the cheapo xc wheelset and RollX tires, and put Sun MTX rims on Hope hubs with Nokian NBX 2.3 tires, and DT SuperComp spokes..... this means some porn!

Nice ride man!

Question for ya: Are you using the SX for trail riding? How's it working out?

I didn't think you could run a front der. on those, but I guess a picture says a million words:D

Yes i am using it for trailriding mainly since i lack a car for shuttle runs. It handles fine for me... not too heavy, very agile and it feels like a hardtail when the suspension is not needed. I am 100% satisfied with it.

As for clearance... i was amazed by the amount of clearance on the rear end... the front der is 1 or 1.5 cm away from the tire... i could easily push a 2.5 there if i needed it. But up untill fitting the rear wheel and tire i was skeptical as well with the f/d clearance...

HOLY MOLY that bike is wicked cool! I love the red hope bulbs - nice bling factor.

I have a red bulb up front on my Snipes thanks to Jesus at Bikehell.com - but just a plain old silver XT in the rear.

Great looking wheelset! What's the weight on those wheels??

Rim 640gr, spokes 170gr per wheel, Front hub is 200gr, rear is 385. Tires 750gr each.

The hubs are hopeXc ones... (basically like bulbs but without the convertibility and slightly smaller bearings)

Did you remove the plastic travel limiters in that rear shock?

if you have not... remove the spirng and you will be able to remove the spacers they are around the pollished rod in the center of the shock

you will gain more travel with them removed

Yep that was the first thing i did upon leaving the LBS in January, however i removed them without removing the shock...

Now i am considering a shock with a longer stroke. Fox says that the shock travel is 1.25" (fox site), specialized says 1.5" shock travel. That is without reducers. 6.5" eye to eye. Basically i was thinking of getting a shock with 6.5" or 7" e2e length and 1.75" or 2" shock travel, that with a 3-1 ratio would give me 5.5 to 6" on the rear, and if i flip the linkage plate i would return to the original bb height and ha angle . Any ideas?

I wouldn't mess with different shock lengths or strokes, this usually introduces clearance issues (frame members contacting, tire to seat buzz, etc.) and usually screws up geometry.

If you want more travel, get a different frame, seriously.

I agree. the engineers at Specialized did a great job designing that frame for one purpose.. race mtx and slalom. I think that the bb is too low for regular trail riding. I have done it on mine but you really have to pay attention to where your pedals are. I have been ejected over the bars more than once pedaling through technical terrain on my sx

I stand corrected, i was just to tired and spurt some random (incorrect) thoughts.

Agreed, after getting a road bike , and after improving as a rider (by 2045 i presume) i ll get either a Scream or a Demo9. The bb height has created no issues to me so far, i guess i was used to low bbs from my xc hardtails.

I have a similar setup, but I use mine for mainly dirt jumping and MTNx. I did race a DH race two weekends ago (lame course  ) and it handly awesome. Since I don't have a XC bike I do ride this one as you see it on the trail. With certain tires I do hear the tire buzz the chainstay when I corner. It doesn't happen with my 2.35 Larsens, but it does with 2.35 Bling Blings, 2.5 Hookworms, 2.4 Hansventures, and 2.5 Minions. I love this bike, so fast and corners great!
