hey, im looking at hardtail frames and i was just wondering if you guys could give me some names of steel hardtail frames that can handle a 4-5 inch fork that you can get for 500 ish. this would be for cross country so im looking at maybe 5lbs max but i want something that could handle the longer fork geometry wise.

any help is appreciated.

affordable custom steel at/around $500:

Peyto Cycles

I am starting a frame business with new frames being available in Feb 2004. I built a prototype for 5" travel fork, I've been riding the frame for urban and trail XC, and it feels good so far.

I can help you out if you can wait until Spring 04, but if you want someone else or can't wait, check out Peyto -- the website is right here. Note that the prices are in Canadian dollars.

There's also Curtlo, I own two Curtlos and they both are amazing frames. They cost more than $500, but are worth every penny. Here's the Curtlo website.

Cove handjob? Gunnar Rockhound?

Curtlo makes custom steel frames that start around $650, I think...well worth the extra ducats, I'd say...
