This question sounds stupid!

If a spring is rated 275 and you fill your air chamber to 225,
does that equate to 500 lbs?

Does the spring handle bigger impacts and the air chamber handle smaller impacts?

No, it does not. The spring is 275 lbs/in. stiffness. The air pressure is 225 psi. Different units cannot be added together.

What fork or shock are you talking about? That might help you get more specific advice.

I have a roco rc on my sunday with a 275 spring
I also have a dhx 5. on my heckler with a 550 spring.
Im weighing about 260 with gear.

Should the sunday have a stronger spring?

You should be running a 450 or 500 lbs spring on your Sunday. The air pressure in the shock is best thought of as an adjustable bottom-out resistance, it has nothing to do with the overall spring rate of the shock.
