since the "graphics dept" doesn't understand downgrading & loss of quality from a 1280X1024 to 640X480, i'm going to move the logo into the 640X480 region of the fat one & crop.
i was looking at teh code in ppmtolss16 (SElinux boot uses this, while grub uses *xpm.gz, both of which are rooted in *.ppm) & gave consideration to adding code to test for FG color so it always wins. but, it's too arbitrary to be reasonable.
