That's the problem it was YOUR first real MTB video, because you were only 12.

There were a lot around before that one.

Ya I know there were alot but this was the first video that really made Mtb stand out in my opinion. I mean come one, you had shaun palmer on there shredding it up and people didnt even know who he was at the time. It was def a great era back then... What videos stood out to you before Chainsmoke?

The Greg Stump and RAP films were pretty good.

If you know skiing and snowboarding then it was even better when Palmer came on the MTB stage.

"Dirt" was the first one I ever had - I'd guess about 1994 or something since it was given away on the cover of MBUK in 1996. No relation to the magazine which didn't start up until 1997.

Still brings a smile to my face now when I watch it!

I'm pretty sure the FIRST real MTB video was Tread with Hans Rey and Greg Herbold.

(And I'm pretty sure I still have my VHS copy of it somewhere around the house here)

I do remember Tread and Re-Tread... But I thought they were both pretty lame. I thought Chainsmoke was by far the first well-produced mtb film of its generation. It opened up newschool mountain biking for sure.

I figured this was about Tread.

Man, we watched that flick over and over, all day long in the shop.

Don't remember much of Re-tread, but remember being really annoyed by one called Vicious Cycles.

Dude, what about "Hammer Time?" With that one dude who did nothing but heel-clickers. Over, and over, and over.

And over.

That's about as early as I remember. Tread was '96 or something right? It was around the Olympics?

My oldest, mtb movie is either Plush: The Video, Chainsmoke 1, or Real Sick and Real Simple.
Those Real XXX vids were awesome. I moved to SB in '96 for school, and a video with people shredding local trails ruled.

I still have those somewhere...
