About 6 weeks ago I moved from Undergraduate Admissions to Campus Recreation (I work at a college). The initial appeal was the work and the people, but the fringe benefits were also good - free membership to the gym, free locker, free exercise classes (i.e. spinning), easy access to shower/locker room, etc.

Turns out one of the guys on staff used to own a bike shop and handles all the bike building/maintenance work that goes on in the department. He showed me out to true up my wheels and told me I could use their tools/stand/etc anytime I wanted.

Today I found out that I also get a staff discount through Quality Bike Parts. Man I love my job!!!!

There is a free exercise room, but we also have a pay-to-use gym with better/more equipment. Some classes are free, some aren't. The locker room/showers are free, but at my old job was on the other side of campus, so it's all about location now!

That should make your job worth it right there.

Best of both worlds, a job not in the bike industry and a discount on bike parts.
