I have no idea where I am
thanks doc, wasnt sure of the genre/demographic I was communicating with, but now I can go about my day with confidence again, 5 stars

Might make things interesting when I go down to submit my plans at the planning dept tho
Does DeWalt make a man thong ? Wonder if you can get a banana hammock at Harbor Freight. It is the land of single use tools after all.

I dunno, man - I have a low profile hydro floor jack that I've been using regularly since 2014 and haven't had any issues.

Of course, now that I've said that, it'll fail next time I try to use it. :homer:
Single use can also mean that you don’t want to drop any significant coin on a tool you are likely to only use once.

But yeah, noa that you have mentioned it, the jack is probably leaking oil as we speak.

After not having any box stores anywhere close and the only alternative for power tools is ace hardware and some lumber yards that are stuck in the corded ages, I have had to lean on harbor freight pretty heavily this year and I have been very surprised by the performance of the new brands and tools. That was not the case 5 or 10 years ago at all.

I elected to bike on home after my appointment literally 400' away from where I'd work in person today in the ultrasound reading room... because the painters are still at work. good thing I did so as well: they managed to trip the GFCI outlets on the porch. and, my house builders being in a rush, the GFCI outlets (kitchen, bathrooms, outside) are all on one circuit... that is reset from an outlet within the basement mechanical room.

anyway, reset. and they're still painting away. house is quite startlingly blue now

How’s your crawlspace issue remediation going
Short story long:
  • Remediation is done save a couple punch list items that probably won't happen until after restoration is done.
  • Restoration contractor sent estimate to insurance company on Nov 1, haven't heard anything from anyone until today.
  • Restoration contractor emailed the adjuster (and us) to ask about status. Indicated that the sense of urgency seems to have been lost, and that the homeowner (us) is "living out of our garage" (which is true from a particular point of view), and that hey can we get this approved?
  • Adjuster responded that they requested the estimate be uploaded directly to their estimate automation system a week ago, Nov 7th.
  • Contractor lays it down to say yeah, we got that request but we have price deviations based on market conditions that need to be approved or your system is just gonna kick it back. So approve that shit and we'll submit it.
  • I followed up with something that sounded smart and had words with 3+ syllables, hoping that helps things get going.
Tell you what, I'm fucking pissed right now as I've explicitly requested that we be kept in the loop on ANY communications regarding our claim. The adjuster is piss poor at doing anything until she absolutely has to i.e. when someone asks or emails. I've tried to escalate this to a claims manager (right now it's with a claims adjuster) a few times to no avail. I don't know what else to do, save getting a lawyer to write a sternly worded letter to someone.

Thankfully we're not actually living in the garage either. We are "living out of it" meaning all our belongings except the few items we have in the apartment were renting are in there... so anytime we need something it's a trip to the garage to get it. Could be a LOT worse, but isn't ideal.

Careful, there, Chad. :p

J/K - sucks having horseshit like this happen. Not like you/me/we have better things to do with our time than hand-hold everybody when something need to get done. I mean - we're paying the insurance companies for this kind of shit?
Chad. Ha!

Thats the game with adjusters, they delay and muddy the waters to time out your claim or just break you down till submission. you need to go full Karen and ask for a manager.

Presumably the insurance company is covering your apt rental? You think that they'd have some motivation right there to get this shit rolling...

I've already gone full Karen three (3) times, and so far the insurance company hasn't put me in contact with a manager. I'm not asking for the manager via the current adjuster... it's difficult enough to get her to do her job as it is. I don't need that sort of conflict inserted into the already delicate communication relationship we have with her. Until such a time that our claim actually gets escalated, we need her to keep doing at least the half-assed job she's doing now.

Edit to add: I truly think she knows we've tried to escalate as she seems a lot more defensive since we did. Could be confirmation bias, though. And I assume/presume our escalation request has gone unfulfilled because there are SO MANY claims right now, what with two hurricanes hitting the SE part of the country and all.

They are covering the rental, thank goodness. That was a fucking ordeal in and of itself, but now it's done and approved and can keep rolling as long as it needs. We have up to $89k for "Loss of Use" coverage, and rent is only $1500/month.

WTF. Homeboy ate crab last night and now has gout and can barely walk. I have to pull the seat out to replace the cushion, so I will just crawl under the dash then and see if I can find anything. If I can't find any/or fix it this weekend I will call him Monday and take it there then.

First and foremost, everything about the situation sucks.

But dang really, $1500 for a place seems like a steal.
Yeah, it sucks for sure.

But also yeah, $1500 for a place is a steal. In full disclosure, it's a 1-bdrm apartment above a garage that is owned by some friend's of ours parents. The parents just moved to town a few months ago and haven't been doing anything with the apartment. They said we could stay as long as we need to, and initially they only asked for us to cover utilities. But when we got the insurance coverage we insisted they get paid... and we had to fight them to make it as high as $1500/mo. They only asked for $1000 at first, and I think insurance would have easily paid $2k or more. They're good humans, and we are very lucky and grateful.
