After 3 years not competing at any dh races, i decided to start again this year. I´ve always been on maxxis highrollers as allround tires. What about the new Schwalbe tires (muddy mary, wicked will,...)? Could you compare them to highrollers?? Don´t know what to ride this year, but i´m tending to highrollers again :-)

thanks!

...to even suggest around these parts that you're not running Minion DHF's front and rear is punishable by guns... you know that, right?

:)

Give specialized tires a shot. they have really upped the game this year. and for an everyday, day-in day-out all-around tire, they are my favorite

either chunder fr and rear or chunder rear, clutch up front and you will be a very happy man.

running a high roller rear and a muddy mary front. havent had a lot of time on this setup, just one dh race. however my initial impressions are very positive. the always predictable and trusted high roller rear compliments the extremely sticky and relatively quick rolling muddy mary.

I usually run the Minion DHF setup but used Specialised Chundra's fr and back last year for a while and I gotta say they worked extremely well......Just as well as the DHF's. The Chundra 2.3 is the same size as a Minion 2.5, and its 200g's lighter per tire.

Mudy Marys are a great tire, ran the park 1 day on minions and then the next day on Muddy marys I overshot the jumps and came out of the corners faster with less pedaling.
Rode yesterday at hellsgate and they did awesome going down the chute and the singletrack as well. Corners are flat, tight and go down then up the next half of the corner (no berm) rear starts to drift then the front starts to drift. Corner goes up allows it a bit of pressure and WHAM it hooks suspension compresses and start pedaling out. Sticks like glue...

Pretty impressed it was hooking up as well as it was on a corner while going over a hump and down into a tigh corner, suspension was far from loaded and DAMN when it got a little weight on it they dug and it was on.

Id go Big Betty rear and Muddy mary front if your looking to schwalbe, theres other combos that are great but if you take 1-10 on terrain rating and 1 being MUDDY 10 Being rock hard the
wicked will is 8-10 terrain type (this is the hard pack tire of choice)
Dirty Dan is 1-6 terrain type (This is the Nasty muddy as well as dry tire)
Muddy Mary is 2-8 terrain type. (The tire of choice for 80% of everything to ride and the go to 1st choice)
Big Betty is 6-10 terrain type (Good socal tire and good on roots and rocks, NO MUD for this guy)

thanks for your suggestions and answers. I alredy tried the minion DHF on the front and on the rear, but i prefer the highroller. i think it is more predictable and holds edge much better.
but i will give the chunder and the muddy mary a try! :-)

If you like hte high roller than Id try Muddy Mary front and Big Betty rear! If not BB front and rear, Bobby killed it on those things in SOcal dust in the palm desert area and Idylwild! I like it as a rear and its a good f/r tire as well I just prefer a more aggressive tire on front.
The specialized are supposed to be sick tires as well, I know they revamped this year so it will be good to see what comes down the pipe from them.

Either way it will be a good thing to have another DH back again! :thumb:

Do you know if schwable dh tires are available in UST or is it only an option in their FR lighter weight casting?

They are approx 1.5 ply theoretically, they are heavier sidewalls then the FR version and save weight by no wire bead.

Theres no reason not to run a DH schwalbe tubeless, I do all the time and NO issues. I run the FR version this way as well, I burped a FR the other day but I also dented the 823s on a rock landing.

They USTs handle alot of abuse wether it be Maxxis or Schwalbe they are both great tires, I like both I prefer Schwalbes after running the line up and especially after the 5k trail and the Dirty Dans.

I'm curious as I want to switch from maxxis ust so 1.5ply kinda worries me as I want to run ridiculously low pressures.
How well do the dh schwables seal tubeless? I assume they are not in the official UST standard?

I havent burped one yet, I did blow up a rim last year and the tire wouldnt hold on but then the wheel wouldnt turn past the chain stay anywase! LOL

The DH casings are fine Ive ran the ghetto tubeless, 823s, stans etc and NO issues. I do run Stans regardless of tires IE ust and Ill still use stans. Id rather have a little extra weight and security then a flat and stuck!

I ran thos DDs yesterday tubeless with stans on 823s in freezing weather and no issues, I ran USTs 1 time and all the riding I do is non-UST models.
I carry a tube and granola bar wrapper incase I gash a sidewall wide open so I can get out but Id do that tubeless or tubed anywase.

I seal my DH casings with a floor pump no problem at all, they seat and seal perfect, some tire levers to get em on the rim depending on tire choice but no slipping or burping.

Like the pic above it drops from the rock off in the background down to the rocks below. I cleared it all but 1 time and I dented a 823 when I hit, my FR version burped a bit but I rode it the next few days jumping, drops etc and finally checked the pressure it was at 20psi.
