is the secret sauce in turning on this paycheck parking flag? then it seems like a whole lot of juggling timing of bills/inflows/outflows

edit: turning on said flag still has this HELOC juggling affair behind just regular extra payments of the same amount, both scenarios.
Use cash advance from your credit card to payoff the HELOC that pays off your mortgage. Double win!

I stopped paying extra on the mortgage now that I literally get twice the interest in a savings account than I would saving paying the mortgage. Even better when I drop below the SALT maximum.

One of the big points in the meeting is the issue some posts have with the transition. Some posts welcome new blood with new ideas, some don't. I know a guy who wanted to join our post got turned away because he had piercings, or so I heard. I was recruited buy a couple different guys, but they also don't know I'm a liberal.

Sounds like a lot of gray goatees.

I'm willing to try out specific numbers to see if this or that strategy makes sense

but per the very link espousing it as a strategy it doesn't seem to add anything

:homer:

Maybe if you had a sweet 7% mortgage
with the mysterious paycheck parking flag turned on a 3.9% 30 year mortgage (vs a 7.74% HELOC) is where the complicated HELOC-bank strategy breaks even with just regular extra payments.

without the mysterious flag then it takes--you got it--a 7.75% mortgage rate to make the 7.74% HELOC more attractive.

yeah, they still don't get it, debating the minutiae of dissolving/merging rather than acknowledging and addressing the true issues at hand of a younger, family-based membership with an active lifestyle with a work life. The newer generation of vets don't want $1.50 rum and cokes in a dungy basement with zero involvement of family or family activities or outreach that doesn't involve parades, poppy drives, or even clumsy ceremony details.

I'm assuming I should get a payday loan to cover the cash advance?

I appreciate whatever advice you can provide. Dave Ramsey is my shining light and Kramer the only person I trust for guidance when investing.

Proper ride today. Short on miles but a pretty good pile of feet. Snow up top made the steep techs bits extra spicy, bottom stuff was Velcro traction hero dirt. Time to build a pergola, I guess.

Birthday party for my 7yo. Holy shit are 7yo boys annoying. Felt like I was herding stupid dogs. I think ours had a blast though, so it was worth it.

Sometimes I have to laugh at how comparably young we are. Talking to other moms sometimes it seems like we are babies as our kids are so much older than theirs and we’re still younger. Everybody in this town has got to be like 40 before starting a family.

We don't technically have a post, we have our meeting at a house the Elks Lodge owns, so we don't have a bar or anything. We have a lot of whiskey in the closet, but that's just because.

I originally joined the VFW in San Diego for the $1.25 Budweiser long necks.

Car has been golf balled. Easy 20+ on the hood and a bunch on two doors. That's what I can see with the car dirty. I need to get the box off to get it washed to see if there are more.

Moved most of the new furniture out of the garage, finally. First dinner on the new deck. Grilled BBQ chicken, veggies, and baked beans. Got my first flipflop sunburn of the year too

I have a few friends who decided to have a kid pushing 50. I was 29 when my last one was born and that was almost too late for me. Because at 50+ I have an empty nest to relax in.
I used to work with a guy, very quirky, possibly mildly autistic, generally all around really nice guy. His wife was younger, maybe 10ish years? He was 50 when they decided to have kids. Turned out to be twins. He got laid off maybe a year later. Come to find out his wife makes a ton of money, so he got to be stay at home dad and is loving life.

For me it was about being able to keep up with my kids and enjoy them. I love my grandson and enjoy spending time with him, but I couldn't imagine him full time at 53 and he's 10, let alone my 1.5 year old granddaughter. By the time she's 18, I hope to be looking at retirement, not colleges.

Paintless dent repair will likely fix everything. Doesn't matter how many you've counted, the assessor will probably be at least double.

i'll be 54 when my youngest graduates high school and i cannot fucking wait.
I sort of cheated as my oldest was born when I was 15 (she was 17), but I didn't come along until he was 13. With my daughter it was now or never before 30. I think I timed it as well as I could have.
