Im planning a Pacific Coast tour this summer ~1800 mile ride and Ive been all over craigslist because im 17 and poor so i cant really go for any bike i want- just used ones <$700ish. Anyways, im looking at a '08 Spec. Allez and was wondering if anyone had insight into whether id screw up the frame fully loaded, whether i could use a bob trailer instead etc. thanks

I dunno, it seems like you'd want something a slight bit more burly??

I wouldn't buy a touring bike. I would get a mountain bike and get an used rigid fork.

I rode from Seattle to SF on a mountain bike with a rigid fork, albeit a really nice one.

My logic was that the smaller wheels were be burlier than a road wheel and the smaller diameter would give me a smaller gear for big climbs.

While I used a more expensive bike, the components on a mountain bike are cheaper than road bikes.

The shifters are more expensive on a road bike than a mountain bike.
