I was recently looking for a bike my girlfriend could cruise around town on. I don't want to get one too expensive and I also don't want to buy crap. I was checking out Trek to see what they had in WSD's and saw the link to a new bike they have called the Lime. It looks like a great bike for just hopping on and taking off down the path.

The website didn't have too much info though and was wondering if anything knew more about it.

I work at a shop that carries Trek, and This weekend we had The Trek/ Gary Fisher demo trailor to play with. and amidst all the high dollar Bling was a Trek Lime. Everyone from the shop had fun playing around on it. It is no way any type of a performance bike but a simple cruiser/bar hopping/camp ground/etc... bike it has a three speed automatic shifting system, that is powered from a generator in the front hub that drives a servo under the BB, the bike look retro and modern at the same time and it was just plain fun to ride.
another cool feature will be lots of accessories to dress these bikes up and color skins wich can change the accent color of your bike...

Yeah it looks like a fantastic bike just to ride. I read that it is gonna be around $500 is this correct? I would jump on it if it was 300 or less.

The shop I work at is one of the first to get them in. We preordered 10, but only got 6 so far, because thats all that Trek had. They are surprisingly fun to ride, even roadies were having fun riding them around. You just hop on and pedal.

That looks like a fun bike. I wonder if we'll see it in OZ? I work for the TREK dealer in Western Australia and i'd love one of these for cruising by the beach.

You might wanna check out Electra's Townie line of bikes.
I hate Electras. They're great for a small subset of the population: adults who are really afraid of riding a bike where they can't have both feet on the ground at once. But they area otherwise teh sux0r.

The bottom bracket being located so far in front of the seat means the leg extension can be decent with a seat low to the ground. Fine and dandy--if you never plan to ride more than a handful of blocks at a time. The Electra position uses muscles in your leg less effectively than more traditional positioning, thus making it more tiring to ride any distance. Try one and you'll see what I mean. Compare it to something like a low end Breezer, or a Bianchi Milano, or whatever you want. I so strongly object to Electras because through their design they limit the willingness of the rider to ride for longer distances, thus effectively capping the cycling development potential of the owner. I'd be willing to bet that almost everyone would choose a more traditionally proportioned bike to ride two miles to work if they could try riding such a distance on both an Electra and a more traditional bike.

My favorite Trek was the Rail CNC.
Badass. I really want to find a frame somewhere, build it up with some sweet stuff...
