I used them before, they worked great, I used maxxis reg 60a tires too. I heard they are hard to get now.
I now use ust rims and tires, easier to set up but less tire and rim choices. i recomend adding some stan's sealant if you use non ust tires, sometimes you need it with ust tires.

the sealant will adhere to the tyre and the strip will get mangled. They are a one time "band aid" use. It will work but if you have a flat it will be very messy. A UST rim cleans up in 30 seconds.

I've also heard these (and other DIY tubeless conversions) are quite sloppy. I run Deemax wheels with Minion 2.5 UST 60a tires and have been very happy. Keep in mind with true UST you are able to run lower air pressure without burping sealant, as they seal much better.
I run stans, very much like Maxxis liners, on about my 8th set of tires, still working great. just have to take them apart properly is all
