THIS is infinitely amusing and interesting all at the same time. Compared to the average mountain biker's man-cave/ultimate home shop, this perfectly underscores the differences between Roadies and Mountain Bikers:

Dream-Bike-Room-Campi-Drawer.jpg

Roadies concept of the "Ultimate Cycling Lair/Garage":
Security: Keypad entry
Polished hardwood floors
Wood-paneled walls
Antique display case for Shimano Gruppo
Neatly stacked issues of bike mags
Museum style arrangement of frames on book shelves
Spare tires neatly folded on bookshelves
Show room style floor-to-ceiling bike racks
No shop tools whatsoever

Mountain Biker's concept of the "Ultimate Cycling Lair/Garage":
Security: Heavy deadbolt/New York Lock/Crowbar/Chainsaw/Machete/Pistol/AR/Shotgun/Dog
Concrete floors with center drain
Exposed fiberglass insulation walls
Display case for Shimano Gruppo: drawer of MAC/Craftsman/Summit organizer
Hastily stacked issues of Porn/Decline/DIRT mags in corner on floor
Avant-Garde style arrangement of old frames in Rubbermaid bin
Spare tires stacked 5 ft. high
DIY bike racks made from steel tubing or 2x4's
Every shop tool you can afford plus an old fridge stocked with beer

Haha - welllll... the images depicted and the manner in which they are revered makes a good case for this sentiment, but I'm sure Roadies think the same thing about us.

What's interesting to me is what you find when you read between the lines: The primary purpose of this place is to show off to your friends, instead of being a place to hang out WITH your friends. No workbench, bar, fridge, couch, or even a single flat-screen.

Oh and Blindboxx - Hey, no problem bud! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

You're right, that room is for showing off to his friends. Thing is, he has a whole other room for actually hanging out with his buds. And chances are it's full baller:110 inch, Cubans, fine scotches, and many leather bound books.

wow I must be the only mountain biker envies that room. I would never do it, but it's sick. I do love old road bikes though. That collection is just beautiful.

You're gonna have to hand over that man card.

Two more clips and you're out.
woah, i said nothing about giving up my mountain bikes. It's not a bad thing to like road bikes. why can't i just like bikes. my uprising is still my favorite though

Well... unless you know this guy personally, based on what is discussed in the article, this is an assumption. I'm sure somewhere out there, this assumption holds true though... I think...

csermonet - THAT is impressive... and NICE double-door fridge in their for sharing a cold one with friends. =)

thad So, technically I wouldn't classify Johnny T. as a "roadie" since he got his start in BMX and then later moved on to MTB. He only raced road from 88 - 91' if I recall correctly.

Don't hate on assumptions! They're the bedrock of this site! :p

That's a showroom! Not a cyclists man cave... No tools, work benches, stands, sound system... That is set up for an old man to look at his bikes, not for someone to ride them.

You couldn't pay me enough to have to trade my garage for that room.

Nice blast cabinet. Would love one but will content myself with a cheapy HF blaster and making a mess outside. Liking your Miller MIG too. AC/DC/TIG rig is on my wish list so I can retire my old Airco buzz-box.

Thanks. The blast cabinet has come in handy a few times, but its uncomfortable as hell if using it for an extended amount of time. Might sell the Miller, would like one of the new suitcase style machines. Miller XMT that can mig, stick, and tig. Alot smaller and more versatile.

joeg, NICE setup! Looks cozy - like the kind of place you can go to meditate with some wrenches for a while. If the mini-fridge is just out of view, then all you're missing is a bench seat from an old Suburban to use as a couch. :)

Ooh, here is mine. I am quite proud of it. I actually had a mini fridge in there but I ended up taking that into work to hold lunch supplies and figured I could walk the 20 steps to my kitchen fridge to gather beers. IMG-20140215-00245.jpgIMG-20140215-00246.jpgIMG-20140215-00247.jpg

OK, no bikes in view...but my man cave (20's carriage house in the backyard) aside from having a dozen bikes in it also has a bar, handed down from my father in law:

Actually, I misspoke before - - I believe that's actually next on my horizon too - - except you're looking at a higher-grade machine than I am. Local OxArc had a Thermal Arc 180i setup a winter or two ago for under $1K. Did not come with the TIG torch at that price, of course, but is set up to run one.

Alright, lots o' pretty, organized, can-eat-off-the-floor shop/man-cave glamor shots here. I envy your disgusting fastidiousness. Time for a some from the other side of the tracks:

Wait, you own a sled? (given, kind of a grayht one but still ;)).

Gimme a ring when you want to go play in snow man. No foolin.
last time the sleds ran was in late april in whistler. i don't want to have to drive them north again, 55mph while towing kills me (and got me tickets).

can you make it snow in the sierras? - Lakes Basin Rec area specifically if possible.
