Valving vs. Viscosity (suspension Q) (x-post)

So here's a question...

The Marzocchi DJ-1.5 has a Z-5 style damper (simple open bath without SSV, HSCV, whatever)... so there's nothing to reduce hydraulic spiking on high-speed compressions. The fork is also a bit underdamped (on the rebound at least).

I'm fairly sure that larger valve holes help to reduce hydraulic spiking (the spike is the oil not moving thru the holes, correct?), so drilling out the ring'o'valves would help. But at the same time this would speed up the damping, which is a big no-no.

So the question is: if I drill out the valving and increase the oil viscosity...

1. Will hydraulic spike effect be lessened?
2. Will the rebound damping increase (that's if the thicker oil has a larger influence than the changed valving)?

Or will the thicker oil cancel all effect of the larger valve port, thus causing absolutely no change?

x-posted in mechanicQ's and techtalk...

Thanks!
