hm thats right with the astrix, i totally forgot they have that linkage for the shock.

now the real question is did anybody pedal one of those things around at SO?

internet mountainbiking sucks.

I think they were Tank Bikes. These bikes are definately catalog though.

its because everyone was brought up on the classical frame sizing measurement of 'frame to crotch distance'...

I size my bikes by having my knees at the lowest point of the toptube when my cranks are level. I like being able to lay the bike down while still standing fairly straight...

You've probably never landed on one because you've never bought a bike with a proper top tube, 'cause it "scares the poo" out of you :D

I have ended up in a few places stopped, straddling the top tube either riding my Evil, my buddy's Balfa, or my old AC2. And in every case, I was glad I had some extra clearance...
