30lbs for DH tires shouldn't be excessively low pressure, still, there are lots of people that run stans and automatically think that they can lower their pressure...then they dent the crap out of their rims and get to buy new $70 rims rather than $3 tubes...

This isnt directed at you though brian, as I said, 30lbs with 2.7 tires should be no problem as far as denting rims...

depens on the terrain and suspension though. Theres a segment on a trail in a fast short uphill section, more like a sudden G surge. Theres a tiny rock there that never fails to bottom my fork and tire out since the fork is already being compressed by the vertical G's.

Send me all your discarded rims. I'll use''em.
I have several beat up rims - one of them tacoed a little (X-517), and another with a cracked rim (F-519) that is just hanging on my wall as a sovenier. The others are of no value - already eaten by the big garbage truck. Would those two rims work for you?

I'd be surprised if you could manage to build a wheelset with rims that are shot to h3ll. Ehh, I guess we'll just have to look for the pieces of the wheels along the way.... oh, a spoke here, a nipple over there, a bike there... :D

Sitting down to much? I'd just ride the wheel anyways... You wont be able to feel the flatspot when you're riding dogbone...

thats why you should always go through town to the next exit...took me 5 mins to get to the hwy. I never bother with the main boulevard anymore.

plus the dep at that exit has super addictive coffee flavored slushes...its like crack for caffein addicts

Glad I went to Diablo instead of Bromont this weekend.

Well all the spokes are tight and the wheel is still true, I'm going to ride this one till it dies. Hasn't leaked any air ether. So when it is no longer tubless capable I'll use tubes.

I'm almost half tempted to go back to Intense tires and DH tubes.

what tires are you using now? maxxis should be fine, i'd think. i use DH tubes and have used all different tires, and i've only flatted once (mich comp 32, slow leak i found the next day).

the michies sidewalls do seem to be a tad skinnier...try the maxxis (either high roller or minion i'd say) and see what it gets you.

i had my first day on a minion yesterday, and it hooked up pretty good. (front, ST compound, mud conditions).

Maxxis and Michie sidwalls are really comparable, almost the same thickness. Intense 4plys are what you need up there.

I get the feeling a lot of folks who don't ride northstar don't know how rocky a place it is... and jagged rocky too! I've some rocky stuff here in Santa Barbara, rocky enough to have a reputation & Northstar puts it to shame.

Good luck with the rims Brian. sometimes the hit is just right to flatspot it regardless of pressure/tire/body position. Just bad luck man!

With the way karpiels rear suspension moves back, it's hard to beleive your beating the crap out of rims. I almost never got flats when I rode those bikes. Go faster and skip across the top more.

And point and shoot doesn't matter. There are no "smooth lines" on most of those trails. You hit the same stuff as everyone else. ;)

I know, I NEVER had a problem with my Disco, but then again I was using a different tire for those years.
