Hi everyone, I have just bought a 2010 giant alias and am not sure whether I will be able to put a chain guide on it, and if one will fit what type will fit

Not the right bike for a chain guide. You could put one on via the bb but why?

I am going to convert it to 9 speed and I do not want to pop of whenever i go over a bump, thanks for your help

Depending on the BB, you might be able to put one of these on:

The XCX will work fine as long as you don't need a bashguard. If you do, pretty much any traditional guide will fit fine...hardtails are extremely simple and very very rarely have any issues with guide fitment.

Our new steel lineup would be a good place to start, tons of value for the cash.

The E13 LS1 (not +) is cheap, and the ISCG '05 model comes with a bb adapter. Or if you want a bashgaurd, find a cheap one and get a blackspire stinger. They work great for either 1x9 or 2x9 and would be more than adequate in keeping your chain on

Very possible, and actually quite a popular trail riding setup. If you do more high speed flowy trails consider a 34T or 36T middle ring. If you have a bashguard already you can BB mount our DS guide.
