$105 for an XT der from Performance? what the hell is up w/ that?


i haven't placed a parts order in quite some time...i guess the falling dollar is to blame?

One more good reason to go single speed. I've been Shimano-free since 01.

I don't analyze the year-to-year pricing, but about 5 years ago, Shimano tighten the gray market by limiting the amount of mail order houses that could sell their products.

Before that, any company could order 10,000 derailleurs, use half then dump the rest on the web.

It really killed the bike shop.

just buy the deore ones, they all get smashed anyways
That's what I thought and then discovered that the spring that pulls the cage and tensions the chain is WAY weaker on the Deore and LX deraileurs. On a DH bike that sees a lot of chain growth I wore out 2 Deores in less than 3 weeks each before realizing that it wasn't a fluke.
