Enlisted during escalation?
Pretty Much. 8000 people is still to many people for my liking, but I need to live somewhere that my daughter can get a decent education. The rural schools in Maine are lacking.
Was about to be drafted, enlisted to go to Korea so as to avoid Vietnam. Strangely enough, the Army had me operating a landing craft hauling longshoremen around in Busan harbor, occasionally doing more interesting work, I would have stayed there and remained in some sort of marine operations if I could have when my enlistment was up, but life didn't work that way. I liked Korea, its people, and its food.
