I see people riding solo wearing goggles. I'm just trying to understand the point? is it for safety? looks? mud? what? please enlighten me...

Snow , sleet , wind and for warmth.

Why would you need goggles more riding with other people then you would riding alone ?
In SoCal eye protection is mandatory if you're riding behind anyone. It's so dusty you can't see **** behind someone without.

whiskey goggles on occasion....i never let them betray me though.

Most of the posts above should answer your questions.

I wear them because of dust, mud, dirt, bugs, etc. Pretty much anything that might come off my front tire when I am riding.

I really hate the feeling of being on a ride and have a piece of dirt fly into my eye.

I put on a tube mud flap up front and have been shreddin in the rain/day-after-mud and been rockin no-goggles without any problems

The tube does it's job and it does it damn well.
