Why?I hate them.
That is all...
I don't need no stinkin' levers (or lube) to get tires off the rim.Okay, this just in. Needed to take my tire off the other day and tried my KY idea and water and again it worked great! I got two levers in, pulled the bead out carefully, then pushed down on the tire pretty hard and got it to slip right off the rim without any more usage of the tire levers. I'm so no longer worried about putting on wire beaded tires anymore thanks to this new idea. And I didn't even by the KY brand. I bought the el cheapo walmart Equate brand to save me some dough!
I doan need no stinking levas EEtha!I don't need no stinkin' levers (or lube) to get tires off the rim.

I agree with Samnation as well. My rims do not have that deep canyon those rims he has in the video.Spank Tweet tweet (or any OHBAH rim) is next to verifiably impossible the inner wall of the rim is curved up so you cant push the tire to the middle. and to make the situation even worse you cant use metal levers because the finish sucks. I can do almost any rim/tire I did a 729 with a WTB dissent the other day barehand but the spanks I dread.
No offense infamous but that vid is misleading. First, both tires he has are XC tires, not DH's. He never mentions their wired beaded, only that the rim has a bead/lip for UST's. You can see easily the tread pattern is a small nobbed XC. If you got true Minion DH tires on without anything including no levers, you must have had better luck than me or different rims and tires. I was able to remove my buddies foldables without anything either just like the vid, and he had Kenda wired beaded but they were XC tires and they came right off. Didn't even have to use a trash can. That method works awesome! Just put on 2 Minion DHF dual plays with no tire levers at all, or KY for that matter.
How badly were the rims damaged?the worst i ever had to deal with was a intense tire (one of the 4 ply ones) with a dh tube, i got it off using hub wrenches..... turns out they make great tire levers .
not at all because i was carefulHow badly were the rims damaged?
YES!!! Another satisfied customer testimonial!!!!! :Today I got a pinch flat and after changing the tube I was having a very hard time getting the last bit of my wire beaded ignitor back on the rim and was getting pretty frustrated..
Then BIGHITR comes rollin down the trail, stops to help me, and sees my situation. He pulls out the KY, puts some on the bead and the rim, and the tire just slides right on without a problem. It was like magic!
Thanks again man!
Disaster! All I have is AstroGlide (strawberry scented). Am I screwed?Well, glad to help you out buddy! No go forth and spread the word! Walmart brand KY Jelly personal lubricant! Stuff works!!!
Don't know, did you add water from your camelbak to make it extra slippery? It does make it extra slippery ya know... As to the scented, you might come across as a bit gey.Disaster! All I have is AstroGlide (strawberry scented). Am I screwed?
The same technique works for ANY tire and rim, and if you do not use it you are just making things tougher on yourself, even if you are using levers.I agree with Samnation as well. My rims do not have that deep canyon those rims he has in the video.

But if you have true steel bead minions, I'm curious which ones and what rims you have. I'm sure you know, there are foldable DH minions, Kevlar beaded and Steel wire bead as well as different compounds. Are yours true wire bead Minions? What kind of rims did you have and how wide are they? Where they 60a durometer 2 plys, 40a's, MaxPro's or EXO's? Also what size, 2.35's or 2.50's or larger? Reason I ask is you can see in the vid the rims he has are tall skinny XC type rims not typical wider DH rims. They have a deep well in the middle. Mine don't. Also it looked on the first tire his hand pressing on the sidewall the rubber crinkles easy which appears the rubber is real flimsy papery thin like single plys and foldables. My Sun MTX 33's are lower in height, wider, don't have anywhere near the well in the middle like the one in the vid and mine have a really thick side wall compared to my Azonic outlaws sidewalls that went on super easy. You could not do this on my Sun MTX 33mm rims. No way in hell. I tried for two hours and broke tire levers till I figured out using KY with a little water. Even when I got my tires on before I could never seat the tire so it wouldn't wobble. With KY and water, boost the air up in the tube, you don't even hear the pop when it seats. It just slips right up over the lip. I can post a vid up of how easy it went on and off, a lot easier to do than what you see in this video. Taking a tire off is a lot easier than putting it back on. And the vid, you can see the tire flexing super easy when he squeezes it on the vid. It looks flimsly single ply or foldable to me.
Shiggy, go tell that to the guy stuck in the woods trying to get his tire on next time,... In fact when in the woods, you should say, "Check out my vid and see how easy it is! Oh, you'll also need a trash can! Forgot to mention that..."The same technique works for ANY tire and rim, and if you do not use it you are just making things tougher on yourself, even if you are using levers.
I do not need levers or lube for DH tires on Sun rims. Dead easy--using the same method in my video.
If you have a shallow center drop rim, use a thin rim tape. Strapping tape instead of Velox can be the difference between newer impossible and easy.
