My pet rant...if it goes true to form there will be almost zero media coverage of the 2007 World Championship of Mountain Biking being held at Fort William - Scotland next week.

Most of the sports channels in the US don't even know how to spell "Mountain Bike" and are totally oblivious to the fact the the world's biggest event for Mountain Biking is happening next week. The best off-road cyclists in the world will be at soggy Fort William and they expect over 100,00 spectators to be lining the courses. Millions of avid cyclists around the world would be happy to pay a fee to see some great live coverage of this event.

I suppose us unlucky ones who can't get to Scotland will have to be content with the same old same old...tracking the event with half a dozen web sites at seven in the morning that might broadcast some real-time results or get a kind buddy on the course to post results to Ridemonkey as they happen - if they can keep theri computer dry.

Transcend will be running a live stream from worlds on the website with a new embeded player. Getting it together tonight, should be cool as long as all goes well. It may or may not be available if you have a US based IP address however, not 100% sure on this yet.

Its being covered by the BBC. Might be worth looking on there web to see if you can watch it on there?
really? thats sick, i just moved here south of london from the US, and am surprised of all the mountain bike coverage, theres shows of crankworx slopestyle from 06 and 07 and those red bulls city comps, its all sick. That would be great if they got world coverage on tv as well.

PS transcend, is this online thing available to us in the UK

assuming that i dont make it up to worlds

sick, nice one transcend. Oh, and i'd expect the bbc to cover the worlds, they did cover the world cup last time, shouldn't be a worry...even sicker if they could do it in HD, but that's probably asking for too much.

If you look on Transcend I posted the official UCI worlds TV schedule. It lists broadcast times, networks and events. I believe someone else posted it in this thread earlier too. They have a live broadcast in India and yet we do not in Canada or the USA on network television, ugh.

There will be way more than 10 000 spectaters lining the course. probably 5-7 times that #. A regular world cup there draws 30 000 pluss.
Im sitting in LAX right now typing this en route to Ft Bill. The kind lady even skipped charging us for our two race bikes. So far so good.
Daily litter coverage from Flipper and myself will start tuesday or wednesday, depending on how bad spomer wants to make you all wait.
I will be down and uploading from a 1969 VW campervan...hopefully it makes it up the Ben Nevis. See you there Fraser.

I just looked it up on the BBC website.

"Mountain Bikes World Championships
Sun 9 Sep, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm 120mins

BBC Two brings viewers highlights of the 2007 UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships from Fort William in Scotland.

There's a strong British presence, with Steve Peat, a real gold medal contender in the men's downhill, having shone in the World Cup this year. He suffered a dislocated foot at the National Championships in July but has made a dramatic recovery, such is his desire to compete this week. Viewers can expect plenty of spectacular action. "

WTF? what's up with the licensing issues in the US? is someone picking it up to charge for it? I wouldn't mind coughing up a couple bucks to watch (did that 2 years ago to see Sam lose by .7sec to Barrell), but it'll piss me off if it's like last year where NOBODY was allowed to show it...

whats up with Peaty, Leov and Barel?
Peaty is racing

it was feared last week that the nourishing blood needed to get to the talus (spelling?) bone did not arrive during the healing process and the bone had 'died', but seeing another specialist confirmed that was wrong-which was a good thing as the first Dr. said one wrong dab on the foot and he would not be able to use/walk on that foot again.

Peaty is hardly 'ready', but heart, desire, wisdom and god given talent might just be enough to bring home the rainbows to king of scotland.....via Sheffield! ;)

GO GO GO PEATY

Same as last year. A company owns exclusive US rights (and is not using them). They have gone after those who broadcasted to the US in the past and sued them.

freecaster has been sending me updates saying they are streaming Worlds live. I don't understand crap about blocking websites, but does that mean freecaster is airing it, but I'll be blocked from it?

just got a letter from Justin Leov... looks like he's OUT for worlds... bummer!

Bit of an update and some bad news to report. I've been recovering in Denver pre Worlds but unfortunitly not enough for me to compete so I made the call last week to sit out the remainder of the season. I caught a flight back to New Zealand two days ago and plan to do the rest of my recovery at home, in Christchurch.

Bit of a bummer not to be able to compete, not the ideal way to end a good season.I plan to spend the summer here in Christchurch, building up for a stronger 08 season.

Apart from that I'm happy to be home and able to take a breather!

Cheers,
Justin

I think im destined to take photos full time this wolrds. Walking the course starts in 45min....but it looks like almost everybody has been riding the track for weeks.....lucky for some, Not quite sure if thats kosher for a worlds course, but what can you do, public track and all.

Sunny yesterday, mist rain today.
