wow that silver stem ruins everything.
Nah, I like the silver stem. You can't black the whole thing out - disc rotors aren't black - the stem offsets the rotors a bit.

stem is one i found lying about my garage, i still cant decide on one i want, which is a pity

sorted the seat out a few seconds after this picture

and yes i did just spray it.......i will post another picture in about a week that will confirm it, as it will start to flake by then (i have more cans...plan is to just keep spraying it till it stops chipping)

Yeah, your bike looks cool ... from a distance. I can't believe you painted that bike with a spray can, hoses, calipers and all. You should have painted the seat while your at it. There is a right and wrong way to do things and you didnt do it right. Doc should re-po your bike. Disgraceful!

i kinda like the ghettoness of spray painting over the mona lisa. as long as he's having fun riding it we should let him keep it, eh?

edit: ALTHOUGH!!! are those WHITE zip ties?!?! maybe a re-po is in order. ;)

what? BOO ?? i'm wrong????? I could have just bought a magic can-o-paint instead of months spent to powder coat and anodize??

I guess I'm in shock that someone would do that to any bike much less one that is soo rare/costly.

whatever. i have nothing else to say on this thread.

Hm. Guess I didn't intend for you to take that comment quite so personally, but clearly the guy spent a long time painting it to get it exactly how he wanted and that's somehow wrong? Why shouldn't he? Because it somehow makes the bike less worthy/rideable since it was done with spray paint so he can ride it the next day rather than waiting for months and spending hundreds?

Bike looks cool. I'd love to testride one of those someday.

Did you spraypaint the primary drive chain, too??

I like the 'spraypaint' job because it has a very high 'punk' factor......especially when it's done on a bike like this.

The MTB world needs more 'punk' and a little less 'bling bling.'

true indeed. may i quote you on that??

aw, c'mon joel...don't go away. we can't all be uber bling dorks, right? i completely understand what you're saying about spray painting a bklyn, but i think there's plenty of room for the less-anal brooklyn rider. no? heck, one of doc's best riding buddies takes horrific care of his big link, and there are far fewer BL's than RL's. he's got macgiver-rigged components, never ever washes the damn thing. the important thing is he is the happiest guy on the planet when he's railing through the woods on it.

i wonder what you might think of this guy's "paint" job...the entire front triangle is covered in STICKERS.

Yea i have to say I would not have painted everything. I for shure love the frame, swing arm, and the floating swing arm that looks prime right there. But I would have left the brakes and chain. I think you should get a gold chain "I forget who makes it" and ano seatpost and stem, that would look pimp with the black and gold

Yes ofcourse. ;)

Are there other people who have done stuff like this ?
I would like to see what kind of 'creative things/stuff' other riders have done.

I have used rattle can paint on a few frames. It's not like it perminatly taints the frame, it can be stripped and powdercoater at a later date and nobody would ever know.

Mine isn't anywhere near as rare or expensive, neither is it particularly artistic.

Did you paint the stanchions? If so is that bad for your fork? I think some gold would be bling on that bike. Maybe try some clear coat or sanding then painting it so it doesnt chip?

gentleman please....

it was orange when i got it (2nd hand import from big ole USA),
i come from a bmx type background.......ime not into making my bike look new/factory/pimp i prefer to just ride....

fair enough joel you feel my bike should be reposessed, ive been following the guy who had his tmx chromed (chromegoddess i feel for you). its been what? 2 months ish? i cant be bothered spending that amount of time and money on making people drool over my bike.... i can spend £6 or about $10 and be totally happy with how my bike looks.

who knows, i inherit a bit of money soon, might go get it powdercoated and anodised, but thats the better part of £300 or a week in france riding. ime by no means poor, hell i bought this, but thats just uneccasary spending on something i dont care about

no need to be so anal about, hell it rides the same as it did..... and its not a cardinal sin to spray it without spending a fortune or alot of care......

and people......gold bits? you are kidding me! looks ugly as hell

i like the ghetto rattlecan paint. its punk. like spraybombing an enzo ferrari - its anti-poseur. i'm a bit schizophrenic in that i appreciate both ends of the spectrum - the tmx is all bling; my letoy is stealth black top to bottom. its all good. aesthetics are subjective - no need for bickering. i think we can all agree that bmw's are sweet, sweet lust machines (no matter what the color).

that looks bad ass :thumb:

I myself have some spray paint first hand experience on parts and some older frames and all I can say is it looks JUST as good as any powdercoat. But again, some people like to ride some people like to show and a lot are just bang somewhere in the middle.

Christian -

EDIT: I also am starting to love the idea of your entire front triangle just covered in random stickers. Huber frame protection right there.

thank you for your condolences edd. i'm feeling better about it every day and truly expected someone to do it much much sooner. safe to say xy9ine is good company, albeit schizophrenic, so i feel kinda fortunate somehow.

often think of smothering my commuter/xc with stickers (not a bklyn joel, don't worry) but i'm concerned about the dangers of hiding any cracks or stress that might occur. seems potentially dangerous. what say ye?
