Your favorite part of Dh

I was just wondering what your favorite and least favorite part of Dh'ing is?

My least favorite is when i am sitting number 2 to go and start my race run. I am so nervous and so tense. Then my favorite is when i am in my race run and nothing else matters. I love the total concentration that i have on a race run. All i think about is getting that perfect run.

I'd have to say it's about the same with me. Although, as time has gone by, I've gotten to the point where I'm really not that nervous before my run...mostly after while I'm waiting for the final results, lol.

Oh, and crashing sucks too.

I'm just a fan of riding, preferably something really flowy, or anything plattekill (complete opposites, i know).

The mental nervousness before my race runs has passed, and the "i need to take a crap" feeling had completely passed by the end of this past season.

Sitting on my bike at the top of the run right after I pull my helmet on. It's like the calm before the chaos.

*edit* Actually I just realised this is pointless. It'd be easier for me to list what I DON'T like about DH. Everything from clearing rock gardens cleanly to pulling off brakeless, foot up drifts to talking **** in the shuttle truck with my mates are the best parts. There's too many good things about DH.

my least favorite part is losing my front end in a corner, i'm pretty sure it's the most frustrating way to crash.

My honest favortie part of DHing, Is Hanging out, gettign ready for the race, talking to other riders, checking lines, Helping each other out. Knowing that were all there to RIDE, win or lose we are mostly going to be having a good time.

As far as the Race itself, The adrenaline.... The tunnel vision where nothing but the trail exists, people arent there. Photographers no longer exist, Sound itself just goes away..... Where your the only person alive and its all about getting to your goal without crashing. again the adrenaline...... Best adrenaline rush I can find Anywhere

Actually, I also have to agree with DirtyMike...haha, I like practice more then the race itself. It's always fun hanging out with friends and watching people ride...and of course riding ourselves!

Best:
- Riding a new or upgraded part of a trail that you've worked on and that is just dialed.
- Clearing that perfect line in a very challenging section.

Worst:
- Riding beat up trails that are just getting trashed by erosion and skidding.
- Getting hurt.
- Having mechanical problems that ruins your run or your day.

I try to get in that tunnel vision mode, but i always see pinkshirt and he yells something at me and am obligated to yell back and typically fall.

For some reason, mine is jumping over technical sections that would slow you down otherwise.
Like coming up on a nasty root section and finding one little rock to launch off of and clear all the roots.
I like doing this so much that it has bitten me in the ass a few times.
I will jump a section and realize I am going into a 90 degree corner wide open.

what i like the most is the speed, natural drops, jumps, people cheering and sound of the tires rolling on different types of terrain.

what i dont like is that i always have to take a massive crap before the race, also that i get nervous and falling...

...something like this is what almost paralyzed me back in June...

Cooked it too hot into a downhill right-hander dropping off a big rock, and upon landing I forgot about this flat rock that stuck up staight out of the ground like a half-buried dinner plate. Managed to brake a bit but my front wheel hit it and I went OTB front-flipping into a tree. Thank God for my Dainese.

Not a good time... my doctors agree.

:hmm:

My favorite part is just flat out pinning it on the straightaways and railing (or if I'm lucky) drifting a corner. Jumps are super fun too, but for me - there is a limit to the gnar factor.

Feeling: Putting down a near flawless run and after entering the finish arena, hearing your name announced and being escorted into the hot seat! Realizing you did all you could do to get down as fast as possible and having all weekend work pay off...very satisfying!
Riding: ripping turns, rocking rock gardens and finishing with all your mates and high fiving!
Racing DH has provided me with real life experience, and traveling to new places keeps me totally on the edge of my drivers seat.
Most Importantly: The progression with everything! Five years ago I was looking up to pro riders to show me the ropes, now I get to give back to kids that look up to me!

Awesome: Long adult-head sized rock gardens. Stuttering over the tops of the rocks at speed and the sound the tires make slapping the rocks... Sweet!

Bad: Racing makes me nervous, and I have really bad anxiety as it is. Race day mornings, my stomach is in knots soo bad that I can't eat and keep it down. But once I'm in the gate I'm psyched and ready to go.

i like the feeling of improvement during the weekend as i learn all the sections and get the course wired just in time to put together a race run.

oh, and that part where time slows down.

That's funny, because my least favorite part is sitting there taking a number 2 when you know your start time is approaching but the turd has sensed you urgency and is refusing to come out. This has happened to me many times.

I absolutely hate waiting around for my race run...almost turns me off from racing. Everything else you guys mentioned above hits the nail on the head for the things I like about it.

Best: Feeling smooth on the rough stuff.

Worst: when you see your time and realize that "smooth" is due to you being "slow"!

That happened to me at the last Mt. Snow races where they used the same courses for both. August race - I felt out of control. Sept race - I felt smooth, but was 6 seconds slower than August!

Knowing that Monday morning all my co-workers are going to be complaining about sore backs from cutting grass and doing yard work and other mondane chores, while I am sitting there in pain from endoing in the techy rock garden, smiling. DH makes me happy that I am an old guy living it up with the young while my co workers are old people getting ready for the land after Florida!!!

Going fast, hitting things hard, suddenly not caring about your body and sending it...it's all good.

Thing I dislike most is mechanicals. Don't like dealing with it. I don't even mind crashing that much so long as there's no serious injury.
