Kuwaiti 'slit daughter's throat'

A Kuwaiti man has reportedly confessed to killing his 14-year-old daughter because he believed she was having sex.

Adnan Enezi - an employee in the Islamic Affairs ministry - had just returned from the pilgrimage to Mecca [hajj].

He allegedly bound and blindfolded his daughter, Haifa, knelt her down in front of her two brothers and sister and then cut her throat.

Forensic tests showed Haifa was still a virgin, police sources said. Mr Enezi is being questioned about the case.

Thousands of women are killed by relatives each year in the Middle East and Asia in so-called honour crimes - usually over suspected adultery, pre-marital sex or after having being raped, or marrying without family consent.

The suspect - who is also undergoing mental health tests - was separated from his wife, and has been imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for 18 months for his extremist activities, the al-Rai al-Am newspaper reported.

The daily said that after cutting Haifa's throat the first time, he swapped the knife for one with a sharper blade as she bled and screamed in front of her siblings.

Al-Qabas daily said the brothers and sister fled from the house after the murder, while their uncle took their sister to a hospital, but she had already died.

i just have to know: did he at least say "allah-wa akhbar" as he was doing it? surely this would have brought honor to allah

2 events from 1970's & 1993 make not a trend. Let's see what we have from...oh...this week:

asian JLo faces religious wrath
A sultry pop singer dubbed the “Muslim Madonna” is facing the wrath of religious fundamentalists after releasing a sexy video for her first British single. Deeyah, 27, has become the target of violent threats from members of the Muslim community offended by her glamorous image.
see a trend?

I won't blame allah, but I'll blame a combination of muslim extremism (extremism being the operative word), poor education, single-industry economy, and consistent historical tolerance of human rights violations such as this by the west.

What kind of loveless, wretched beast does something like that regardless of in whose name the act is supposedly committed-

"The daily said that after cutting Haifa's throat the first time, he swapped the knife for one with a sharper blade as she bled and screamed in front of her siblings.

Al-Qabas daily said the brothers and sister fled from the house after the murder, while their uncle took their sister to a hospital, but she had already died."

I'm surprised he didn't ass-rape her himself first or peal her like an onion for kicks. He should be impaled on a thin spit and roasted over coals until he begs Allah's forgiveness...then given the mercy of a slit throat for himself.

so, when does extremism cross into the mainstream?
By definition extremism =/= mainstream.

When I call this extremism, I don't mean that it should not be a concern. I'm also acknowledging that the religion is a necessary condition for the behavior. But there are other necessary conditions.

You'll also note that I'm in agreement on some levels with the author of the first article you cited, that the West has been painfully silent in the face of these types of acts and that there is no excuse for that. I would disagree that it is purely the liberal media and political correctness that keeps us quiet. Our government (both the current conservastive one and past liberal ones), as well as governments of other developed nations, have also been conspicuously devoid of commentary.

Those are the priorities, man. Notice that all "female" crimes that could be attributed to male sexual inadequacy carry a death sentance:

Girl has sex with someone other than the one her family sells her to- offwitherhead!

Girl has sex with a nice guy while her abusive husband is away for weeks at the hajj- offwitherhead!

Girl has sex with someone who can keep it up for more than 3 shallow strokes- offwitherhead!

Girl has sex with someone whose dick is bigger than 3.5 erect inches- offwitherhead!

US Stats:

In 1991, 5,745 women in the United States died as a result of homicide.

Six in every 10 women who are victims of homicide were murdered by someone they knew. About half of these women were murdered by a spouse or someone with whom they had been intimate.

Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15-44.

Every 21 days, a woman is killed by domestic violence.

Children are involved in 60 percent of domestic violence cases.

More than three million children witness acts of domestic violence each year.

Up to 50 percent of all homeless women and children in this country are fleeing domestic violence.

One in ten calls made to alert police of domestic violence is placed by a child in the home.

More than 53 percent of male abusers beat their children.

One of every three abused children becomes an adult abuser or victim.

Victims and abusers are found in every social and economic class, race, religious group, and sexual orientation.

Factors such as poverty, single-parent households headed by women, and parents with less than a high school education were found to be more common among families suffering abuse.

Not really that different is it?

yet another softball: you're comparing a country (of many disparate cultures) to a particular culture.

yeah, it really is that different.

i guess you have to see everything in shades of grey to have this penchant of moral equivalence & desperation to deny absolute evil

OK Argument over. You've just stated that 'All of the Middle East and Asia' is a particular culture. And our survey said... WRONG!

You then state that 'All of the Middle East and Asia' are absolute evil? Aside from the interlectual stupidity of that statement, that is also one of the most racist things I've ever heard. Well done.

And yes, I do see everything in shades of Grey. Because, in reality, that's how the world is! Suprise!

so, unless the story is "All of Middle East & Asia cuts of heads of daughters in the name of allah (most merciful)", you would have a point. Do you not tire of this? i certainly do not.

hmmm...didn't know about that til i went googling. good catch. One must wonder: is there a website/watchdog group which catalogues murders in the name of god? Because for mercy killings in the name of allah (most merciful), there's more than you can shake a felafel at.

seriously, let's run up the score & see if a pattern emerges.

Yeah, but that women probably was insane, over there thats EXPECTED, why do you think he only got 18 months. 30 years ago charges wouldnt of even been pressed.

Unfortunatly most men in Saudi Arabia beat their wives. My dad used to work with a Big buisness dude there, who was a nice guy, and very westernized, any way, my Dad went there allot and those countrys are just ****ed up. 100 years ago they were riding camels and living in tents, too bad some one hit oil. And if your a driver of a car, and you get involved in a car accident, and some one else dies, the family of the deceased can have you imprisoned for life, without question...

Dude, somtimes you are so crazy, you really do hate the US dont you?

The point is that Saudi law is biased. Women are restricted from doing anything, they cant even wear dresses, I dont know how you can make a coment like that and even hold a straight face. When some one kills his wife in the US and is convicted he does life ass hole, not 18 months. Considering that no one here knows what Saudi culture is like. I also go to school with a girl who lives in a Saudi gated community, and she says that if she leaves the gated community and goes into the citys she couldnt without a male escort. It is scary.

EDIT: id like to add some more stupid meaningless numbers in this debate about ethics

US population= 295,342,894

Saudi population= 20,000,000 if you dont count the non-nationals.

So why are the Saudis our allies, mack?

When you answer that question, you'll realize (many other reasons, but this is a good example) why our moral high ground isn't the height of a mountain that we usually imagine it is, but a pitcher's mound.

No, I quite like it - I wouldn't bother trying to enlighten you as to the lies you are being fed otherwise...

How do you know I haven't been to Saudi? Do you know me? I actually haven't been to Saudi but I have been all over the Middle East. Every time I come to the US this means I have to explain that I'm not a terrorist. It's great.

So what are you saying? That your culture is better, more superior and therefore you have the right to rule over these people? That these people are lesser than you and that makes it OK to kill them?

How do you judge a culture? How do you say their way of doing things is worse than yours? They have a way of life which has been in place for thousands of years before anyone had even thought of America. Please just try to see it from their point of view.

Yes, It is wrong to oppress women, but it's also increadibly short sighted to think that the same thing doesn't happen in your own country.

Look again at the initial article and the stats I posted.

The article states that 'thousands' of women are killed each year across the entire Middle East and Asia. That's a population of arounf 3 billion people. The stats I posted show that 'thousands' of women are also killed in America each year. What difference does the motivation of the murderer make? They're still dead! As you pointed out the population of America is around a quarter billion. Just because the foreign reasoning is, well, foreign, to you, doesn't make it in some way worse. It's just different. Once you've been around the world a bit, maybe you'll start to understand this.

No, im not stupid. I know that our country need the Saudis for economic purposes. All im saying is that these countrys are unbelievable.

And to Changleen, do you really think that you can get an accurate number on the number of women killed in Muslim countrys? And yet agian you distort the facts. You say "muslim" countrys. Well, that would be allot, and some are allot better than others, lets keep the numbers straight, were talking about Saudi here, no muslim nations as a whole.

the actions of fellow peruvians who I DO NOT support, dont make me liable, because the only link between those individuals and me is the fact we were born in the same country by sheer chance.

dont make this a "my dad can kick your dads ass"... because you as a single citizen are as neglible to the US as am neglible to Peru, both our opinions are worth the same, near 0 in terms of power of decision for both our situations...

plus, i recognize Peru`s mess and dont have dellusional thoughts about peru`s righteousness or sanctity, or being the moral pinacle like Red US-ers do.... that is the problem, the perseption of the problems

because you gotta be quite delusional to believe you are hated because you of your freedom... thats superlative narcissism dont you think???.....

there is a whole doctrine from the mid 20 century. i dont remember the name right now, if somebody does, plz chip in. in which the current policy and that of most the 20th century was based on.
