Good to see you're still alive!
I came back from the Midwest with some nasty deep sitting cough. Snow storm coming tomorrow. Work sucks. Job opportunities are even worse. No riding in the foreseeable future because effing weather. Y dafuq am I still here?
Whenever I hear you talk about publishing articles it makes me think you'll go down as one of the most prolifically published authors that nobody has ever heard of/read.I presented two workshops to tiny audiences. Oh well. No different than publishing articles few people read.
toshi, on what topics do you lecture and publish?I presented two workshops to tiny audiences. Oh well. No different than publishing articles few people read.
This is pretty common in academics. Most of the journals I publish in have impact factors under 2. This means the average article is cited under 2 times, iirc.Whenever I hear you talk about publishing articles it makes me think you'll go down as one of the most prolifically published authors that nobody has ever heard of/read.
Intersection of programming and radiology, lately. Things we should be doing but aren't because we can't do the relatively trivial math in our heads.toshi, on what topics do you lecture and publish?

The game is to publish, not to publish meaningfully.
Cool.Things we should be doing but aren't because we can't do the relatively trivial math in our heads.
I see you were visiting either SF or NYC.Not gonna lie. l've had better ones. May have spent too much money on too few beers which were basically $10 each including tip.
correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't they let go / terminate your wife?I see you were visiting either SF or NYC.
Wifey came back last night from her final trip to SF for her company. Apparently her boss was really pushing (veiled begging) her to stay available to be a consultant and is trying to help provide her with business as such. The last time she left the company she was doing full time consulting work within two months and were paying her double her previous salary within a year. I would not be surprised to see that happen again, less the doubling of salary. A secondary amusement is that the very junior person (1 year vs 15 years) they are supposedly replacing her with hates her new team and will likely quit within a month (her words to Wifey), leaving them with literally no corporate level sales and marketing team. And the tertiary amusement is that they figured out Tuesday that Wifey was the only person doing their regular monthly market reports. They are the only income generator and sustain the business when there aren't large sales coming in, which won't happen again until late in the year.
In a massive "fuck you, you deal with your own problems" that Wifey learned about and is debating how to respond to, is that they apparently laid off the sales/marketing team and COO to hire a CEO who lives in Canada and will be travelling to SF for 10 days per year. The cost saved from getting rid of them will go to paying for the CEO. I honestly hope that ship sinks. Wifey is already talking to their primary competitor about moving to and taking a very senior position on their corporate marketing team. That would be a massive 'fuck you', because the SF market for this business is extremely small (5-6 competitors) and a large number of the senior people that have left her current company have gone to that company already.
Otherwise, meh. Client meetings went as well as expected. I did the exact thing I do internally, but in front of somebody. The field guys get paid more than internal, so I think I'm going to push to get onto the field team. I also get to take apart my dryer this weekend to replace a tensioner and belt. I might try to squeeze in a ski day or ride if it's dry enough.
Laid off to be exact with last day tomorrow.correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't they let go / terminate your wife?
sounds like a poorly managed company if they're trying to retain her before she's even out the door.Laid off to be exact with last day tomorrow.
we've been jeans any day for a while now. and we are a BIG company that you might not expect it from.On a positive note, company policy just changed to allow for jeans every Friday and from 5/30-9/1 it's jeans every day. Woo hoo!
Can you wear JNCO's? They are jeans too.we've been jeans any day for a while now. and we are a BIG company that you might not expect it from.
i wore those in middle school. i also had mediocre taste in music then. but now, jnco = kill listCan you wear JNCO's? They are jeans too.
JNCO are to jeans as the Insane Clown Posse is to _____________ .Can you wear JNCO's? They are jeans too.
while i'm not a fan of their music, i at least give ICP a lot of credit for having the following and longevity they do as a fully independent music act.JNCO are to jeans as the Insane Clown Posse is to _____________ .
Vaping.JNCO are to jeans as the Insane Clown Posse is to _____________ .
Sounds like a typical company run by maniacal sociopaths.sounds like a poorly managed company if they're trying to retain her before she's even out the door.
5 partners, one has 52% ownership. He's the acquiring individual and voted against keeping her. He was not there for the last time it happened and apparently didn't care about the concerns and fighting of everybody else.sounds like a poorly managed company if they're trying to retain her before she's even out the door.
That's actually pretty surprising. Are you in the same location as the senior mgmt teams and where clients tour?we've been jeans any day for a while now. and we are a BIG company that you might not expect it from.
