Gee Atherton needs a new coach, he has looked flat adn tired in every race run this year. Same for his brother, their REDBULL coach should run and hide, over-training? I'm just speculating but he had Dan Atherton doing sprints just 2 days before 4x finals, heard of some tapering?
agreed, in the latest atherton podcast the coach came across as a arogant prick who didnt know what he was really talking about, and from what ive gleaned from Atherton interviews and videos their training regieme substitutes quality for volume. If i were the Athertons id be looking up bikejames for the off season training, look how far Gwin has progressed from last year under his tuteledge.

That has way more to do with pure natural talent. Not saying that the guy doesn't work harder than most, but his fitness has been up since he burst onto the scene. But I do agree that all serious riders should contact BikeJames, he's the best. He is from Texas.

I am gonna say Gwin is a freak of nature that comes around every once a decade or so.

I completely agree there, but your natural talent is supressed if you are tired from overtraining or incorrect training, of course this is all speculation based on what i see of their training program.

Maybe Graves is a better example, a solid rider takes a year off to specialise in bmx training, which is known for heavy weights, sprints, conditioning and rest. Comes back way bigger and stronger, is untouchable in 4x and gets 12th in the DH world champs. Athertons seem to concentrate on being as fit and light as possible.

Nail on the head, Graves is the epitome of training success. In Gee's case, I'm not sure overtraining has much to do with it. Rider's have bad (scratch that) mediocre years all the time. I watched all of those Atherton show things and I never heard him say, "damn, I thought I had it won this time." In racing, especially gravity racing, there are so many deciding factors that go into a race run that you never know why a rider didn't end up on top of the box. I'm sure that next year will be a different story for Gee, and I hardly ever cheer for the guy.

And mediocre is still a poor choice since homie got top six 5 in damn near every WC this year.

Is all the atherton coach sucks posts stemming from his appearances on the reality show thing? I want to assume he is playing a bit of a role on that show no? because I hope no one trains their athletes like that.
I am being 100% honest when i say I have never ever wathched an Atherton Podcast, not sure why I haven't just never got around to it. I know most of the family on a very limited chit chat basis, so haven't bothered eatching the podcasts. My comments about Gee's coach stem mainly from my observations at the races and 2nd hand enough about what their coach prescribes.

Might actually watch the podcast know for a laugh.

Why were timed practice runs faster then race runs in a few cases? Sam and Mick in particular.

Feckinhell that was the best worlds ever!!!!! I got up late, avoided all contact with the internet as we went into town for dinner, got my Mrs to put freecaster on but just in case some retard had put the winning run up or some bull**** got her to load it up full screen so I couldn't see the winner!! Just watched it through and I'm so stoked, racing was super close! I'm buzzing!!!!! Good job I avoided this place aswell lol!

Typical Aussie course. With the limited rain we have, nearly every course blows apart, gets holes in it etc. Instead of getting a fast race line.

Well... I knew the results before watching the Freecaster reply... and I was still sweating for Peat's run.

Awesome. Well done Mr Peat.

Not read through any of the last few pages as I was away, but I reckon if Minnaar had pedalled around those last two drops he would have won. 5 hundredths is NOTHING, and you can bet your ass that going around was quicker - after all, Fabien did it, and he'd know that sort of thing! :-)

Glad he didn't though, goooooooooooooooo PEATY!

So...

Anybody care to eat their words in regards to Nathan?
Just looking at the 2nd split to finishline times and it looks like Rennoir out pedalled Gee on that last stretch, a 37.96 against a 39.21. A quick look at the results and it looks like Lopes had the fastest 2nd split to finish time, 36.98 (though my maths is usually bad)

Who was that guy on here who fed all the times into a spreadsheet and came up with the timing stats? Would be good if he could do it again.

One last DirtTV Finals Video for you:

that doesnt surprise me at all, lopes was like a machine on the last stretch, he had all the jumps inch perfect and was the only rider i saw land on the flat of that last double.

I have to say the camera coverage of the course is probably the best ive seen so far on freecaster, there was basically no gaps in the coverage and the use of the static camera out of the berm was good too..

Nice to see that Peat won the world champs on the rocky technical sections, and still took the title DESPITE losing over a second on the final section!

And for Graves... What a weekend! World champ in 4x + top 15 in the DH. Mucho respect for riders that do both the DH and 4x

For instance, I think it's interesting to note that if Minnaar had been as quick through the top rock garden as Barel was ON HIS SINGLE-CROWN FORK, he would have won the gold! :O

The first split i aprox 1:15, the rock garden wasn't that long. Barel got pretty ragged in the actual rocks when his front wheel went out from under him and luckily hit the second large rock and got knocked back. would be curious to know the difference in times through the actual rock section.
regardless of where he made/lost time Barel looked committed the entire way down. man i love world champs.
