JJJKKK i like what youve done with your molly. How does it feel with the rigid fork im considering the black market for my own. Also how did you go about shortening the seatube. Is there any way to do this without needing to repaint? Additionally i think in an earlier phase of your project you said the chainstays lengths have been shortened how did you do that? Does it affect tire clearance or brake compatibility? Alot of questions i know but your bike gave me all kinds of ideas for my molly frame. Thanks

Thanks.

Haven't rode it enough yet, it's winter here so I'll know better by next summer. So far it has felt nice I had a rebate fork (425mm a2c) years back and that did feel too short.
Also how did you go about shortening the seatube. Is there any way to do this without needing to repaint?
The seatclamp kinda covers the top edge so repainting ain't nessesary. I did repaint it tho.
Additionally i think in an earlier phase of your project you said the chainstays lengths have been shortened how did you do that? Does it affect tire clearance or brake compatibility?
Yes you are right. Chainstay lengths and the actual dropout lengths were shortened by milling machine.
I had a proplem with that frame, what problem doesn't matter. I tried to fix it using ****ty tools and that blew up completely. Then I refixed the problems I created by using the milling machine. Mill bit shredded to pieces and created new proplems and finally after all these ****s I ended up having a frame with VERY short dropouts which did mean no pegs for me!

This frame you see now ain't the same frame I swapped the one I ****ed up for this earlier generation so that I could use pegs again.

So even if you would got a CNC or manual milling machine or what ever and would have time to manufacture all the needed jigs and stuff I wouldn't recommended to do this mod. Yes it WILL affect tire clearence AND it WILL affect brake compatibility (I shaved my brakemounts off before this mod but I know it would make a big affect). And 3rd, you might screw that up, like I did

^ It doesn't matter, the post was pointed to gackrider24. He thought this bike was the same one I did post here long long time ago.

I can summarise it for you. I had something that had something wrong with it. I tried to fix it by myself and failed and even double failed later on, and finally when I had it sorted out I wasn't very happy about the results. I found a guy who wanted to swap frames and now I have this green frame and I'm much more happier.

any advantage this has over a starnut? bike's looking good.
yeah. basically it eliminates any and all problems that arise from the typical press in starnut. doesn't pull out, actually keeps your headset tight etc etc. and you can use that trickass tree cap. looks cleaner, easier, simpler, better. can't go wrong. as usual though, mtb lags behind bmx majorly with this.

hm. well, the welded in ones don't pull out like the press in ones do. way less hassle, way less issues. pretty sure just about every bmx fork has one now. they're what's up. odyssey set up is trick. threads directly into the steerer tube, no star nut. it's awesome

one world...
how do u find thee starnut with a thread big enough for a tree cap???
Dia-compe makes one. The larger star nut comes in the kit with their top cap and larger diameter bolt that has a hole down the middle to run your front brake cable through. I forgot exactly, but I think they call it the "freestyle kit" or something like that... yeah, pretty rad.
Cheap, and easy to find or order at your lbs from dia-compe/cane-creek.

I agree, the Odyssey, Fly, and Colony forks are very nice... how they completely eliminate any nut/spacer/mess and simply tap the ID of the fork steerer... 25X1.5pitch. You can use a Tree H25, or fly cap, or colony w/ the 1/4" drive ratchet, or wtp, or sunday I believe too... good stuff. I've actually got a colony mvp2.

Nice to see some continuation shots JJJKKK. Lookin' street. That S&M fork is sweet, jolly on the molly. And that Marmoset with the flipped cap looks like it fits almost PERFECTLY with the shape of the dropout too, very smooth. Would probably look goofy when in original form.
Sad to hear some of the frankensteining went south. Guess that has to be expected with some projects. :banghead:

Yes this is exactly why I did it and why I originally wanted this custom Blk Mrkt fork. Pulled off star nut and this Contraband inspired me to make my own for Manitous. It was worth it, headset now stays tight and I can actually tighten it up much more than I used to be able to.

Odsy setup is great you don't have to worry about how much you can cut steerer tube and it's also lighter, I would rather make that as it's really really easy to do IF ONLY you can remove the steerer tube...

I think Odyssey/Sunday uses 24x1.5 (Tree H24). Colony, Federal, Eastern, and Fly, and etc for H25.

Thanks.

The hub does fit perfectly but the mod ain't so new. I had it done when I had the 20mm conversion if you still remember? :)

I did get rid off it, the conversion thing, as I later on realised how dump it actually is so I bought a 20mm Profile non-disc.

Hey I need to actually thank you about the compression bolt -thing. I saw you had one; It didn't work like I first thought it would but it did put me thinking how cool it'd be if I could use a real compression bolt instead of star nut :lighten:

I saw that on Prolly's blog right. I new I recognized the Fall guy. The fixed gear to the right is the Brooklyn Gangster Track and were there a "700c of Love" thread it would most definitely be in it.

Hey, I'm glad folks like these. They feel like a breath of fresh air every time I get on my bike. 30" is a bit wide for for some, but it's worth trying.

Roll back 'em for best results.

Got tired of riding a plain black bike and refreshed it with a little inspiration from one of my favorite bands...

Still trying to find a Crimson Ghost sticker for the head tube :rockout:

HE didnt stretch it.. theframedoc.com DID. still freekin rad considering what it used to be..

theframedoc.com DIDNT stretch it. the people who work for theframedoc.co did. Did you honestly think that a website can like, separate from the internet, get some tools together and go to work on a frame??? no.

Obviously to the liquor store with a seat post like that. I didn't even run my seat that high in the 80s.
LOL. I'm an old fart so I like to be able to sit down when I am rolling around and to be honest I doubt there will be much street or trail riding going on for me. I mainly ride flatland and this is for when I want to have fun pedaling around town.

I took it out yesterday for the first time and it felt really good. Very stable and fast. I think they did a nice job on the frame.

Here's a snap of it outside Goods.
