You're an idiot.I don't understand why WC riders put their number boards behind their cables and then cut ugly slits and holes in it for them? I just mount mine on top - much simpler, much cleaner looking, and probably better aerodynamics!

I actually think that this helmet that Fabien is helping design and the new POC lid are slicker looking than the renowned TL D2. Then again, this is probably why I'm no industrial designer..."What?"
"Well, it's a chainring...and it looks like it's got 48 teeth...and...umm...there's holes in it."
"Oh!"
Anybody besides me think Fabien, while French and therefore exempt from looking cool in a DH race, needs to sign with a different helmet company? He looks like an extra in a Tim Burton flick. Either that or he's should paint it neon yellow and get picked up by Wiffle Ball.
You're an idiot.
That needed to be said. Thank you.
That's your opinion. At least I gave reasoning of why I think it's a poor choice (although the aero comment was obviously tongue-in-cheek). What's your reasoning for calling me an idiot? You're an idiot.
They're mounted like that so they are firmly secured to the fork legs. additionally with the cables running though them there is no binding of the cables, and no rubbing or noise (thick platic # plates can wear through cable housing pretty quick), and it is less likely that hitting something head on with the bike will rip lines/cables out or crush them as can be done when the # plate is on top of everything. some bikes' cable routing doesn't lend itself well to any other form of mounting, and for the mechanics it can make fork removal and general cleaning and maintenance much easier and faster. Is there something they put in the water in Vermont? Possibly douche bags are disposed right into the main water supply..
Seb- I've also wondered the same thing about the number plates. Maybe there is a reason or maybe it's just because they have paid mechanics and it makes them look "trick".
I have my hoses/cables shortened as much as possible. Gets them right out of the way, negligible rubbing and the numberboard attaches to the bars and fork legs. Also minimises chance of damage on uplifts as the cables are hidden behind the board (Vigo for example, bikes in back of panel vans, plenty of hoses/cables get snarled I'm sure). They're mounted like that so they are firmly secured to the fork legs. additionally with the cables running though them there is no binding of the cables, and no rubbing or noise (thick platic # plates can wear through cable housing pretty quick), and it is less likely that hitting something head on with the bike will rip lines/cables out or crush them as can be done when the # plate is on top of everything. some bikes' cable routing doesn't lend itself well to any other form of mounting, and for the mechanics it can make fork removal and general cleaning and maintenance much easier and faster.
so there you have it, straight outta' VT for your reading pleasure

I didn't see a response to this, and I'm curious to know what bike Rennie is running... anybody?Any info or pics on Rennie?
Has the training paid off? Is he fully recovered? Is he pinning it? Is he going to win?
Jesus christ, I was only voicing an opinion and wondering why they choose to do it the way they do. You guys can be so uppity sometimes.I find it utterly amazing at the people on here that claim they are experts on design, proper bike, correct set-up all the way down to number plate attachment. If you are so smart about this stuff then you should either be:
1.one of the top racers
2.one of the top mechanics
3.one of the top designers
It was a general statement. It wasn't pointed directly at you. There are pages of internet genius in this thread by more than just you.Jesus christ, I was only voicing an opinion and wondering why they choose to do it the way they do. You guys can be so uppity sometimes.
random server maintenance of all days. it's there, just slow for a bit probably. From Vital-"The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO
do you have any photos of it mounted that way? seems like it'd be tough to keep in place/straight/solid, even with short cables.I just mount mine on top - much simpler, much cleaner looking, and probably better aerodynamics!
narrowly beating out the slammed helmet visordo you have any photos of it mounted that way? seems like it'd be tough to keep in place/straight/solid, even with short cables.
just curious, not starting sh!t, LOL.
i will say nothing is worse than a crooked number plate.
Nothing specifically taken for that purpose, here's one that kinda shows. I do feel like we're hijacking this thread a little, but whateverdo you have any photos of it mounted that way? seems like it'd be tough to keep in place/straight/solid, even with short cables.
that shows a paper number plate, not a solid board like plate the uci give outNothing specifically taken for that purpose, here's one that kinda shows. I do feel like we're hijacking this thread a little, but whatever
one run for everyone and no 'top 20' sort of rules at worlds so riders are free to play whatever tactics they like. seeding runs are friday i believe. Is the worlds DH race format just one run for everybody?
Or like a World Cup qualifying run with top 80 riders going into a final run?
who cares, this is a world champ thread. you guys should stop dissing people and jsut take a coment like they are. like this one, just read it- if its off topic than be smart and just dont respond. He makes stickers, making him an industry insider. Whatever he says is the truth.
Minnaar might be talking about the big bike being the one as I'm not sure what else they would have to ride. the nomad? I think he has the power and ability to pedal in more places to get away with the bigger bike. I'm surprised they're not trying the air shocks that they tested in Africa though.Holy cow. In the MTB cut vid Brendan says he and Sam didn't even bother bringing the Demos. That seems pretty ballsy to me, especially when, in the same vid, Minnar is talking about how weathered and cut-up the course is, and how the DH bike is going to be "the one".
The Driver-8 would be pretty much spot-on, no?Minnaar might be talking about the big bike being the one as I'm not sure what else they would have to ride. the nomad? Two riders you can look at here are juniors Brook Macdonald and Harry Heath, chasing down Mount Stromlo with a chesty cam
