Can I buy an annual license at the race? Or do I need to apply elsewhere before hand this weekend? I only raced 4 events and bought a 1 day license but am looking to race all 8 races this summer.

If it is of importance, I am in cat 2 currently, looking to move up to 1 soon.
Help.... Main question, can I get a license at the race? If not, where?

Well guys, I wish I could say I would be there this year. It's just not going to happen this year due to funds. Only one income now.....:disgust1: becuase of the wife leaving us. Have to take care of my son and I. On a good note Trek has shipped my bike and I will be doing a lot more riding this year and maybe a few races not having someone telling me I can't anymore. We will see. Next year I plan to make a return to Massanutten...

Good luck to you all and have fun!!!!!!

And people wonder why governing bodies like USAC don't take Gravity racing seriously
........because of this kind of crap portraying Downhillers as a bunch of drunken goof offs who try to grop each other ....great job ! I'm all for having fun but some of this guy Getchell's comments are in poor taste...I don't think he even has a clue. I'm sure I'll get negative rep for this but whatever.

Gravity East is introducing a new, non-championship, event following practice for the classic Yee Ha! downhill race on Friday, April 30. The skinny-tire asphalt racers typically call this kind of preliminary event a prologue, but series publicist Ken Getchell says the term doesn't really capture the true character of the festivities.

"It's not really a prologue in the sense of the Tour de France," said Getchell, "it's more of a schmo-logue where the big ol' Gravity East family can get together for the first time in months and let their hair down before laying all on the line for the first time the next day."

At the heart of the evening will be a Gravity East Inaugural Foot-Down Derby. Wildly popular with New England mountain bikers and Portland cyclo-crossers, the object of a Foot-Down Derby (other than an excuse to drink beer) is to eliminate your competitors by forcing them to put their foot on the ground.

There will be (more-or-less) strict rules about contact in the Foot-Down Derby, and series organizer Dan McDonald said, "unnecessary" groping will be strictly prohibited. There will also be a racing event as muscular downhillers compete, primarily for the amusement of their peers, in a downhill slalom race aboard kiddie bikes designed for kindergarten-aged children.

Im going to put this out there although I think its almost point. If anyone has a set of extra spacers for a raceface Diablous crank I will pay nearly anything for them. My LBS ordered them but there is only a small chance they will come in on thursday...otherwise I am going to have some mad lateral play in my crank.

i know right. having fun is so wrong. just like the naked crit that mt snow used to have

damn you downhillers! damn you for having fun!

i enjoy dh and "gravity" disciplines of riding/racing because at the amateur level, no one really takes it (or themselves) too seriously. the comraderie is good because of the chill vibe and pit shenanigans. if you want ass puckering, catatonic seriousness, just goto your local XC race.

it looks like this DH racing season opener will be well attended if the number of replies/views in the thread is any indication. it's a shame i won't be able to get there until saturday *sigh*

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I still plan to enjoy myself.

It's just that, with any luck, a bottle of whiskey wont find its way into my hand until after my race run.

Also, I dusted off my dh bike for a little warm up yesterday and I can already tell this is going to be interesting. A wee bit rusty I'm afraid.

Separated my shoulder in a crash after 2 races last year and I've ridden the big rig maybe 3 times since. Feels a bit different than my hardtail...

What could be the worst that could happen? :weee:

Not me...

This pulled up first in a link to all sorts of pics from last year in a Pinkbike pic search:

Newbie to RM. Been lurking for a while with few posts. This race is gonna be a great time on so many levels. This thread has been ramping up over the last few days and getting me psyched for this event and season.
I've been on a 10 year leave from DH racing and this is my big return. Raising a family has been priority plus my wife and doc banned me after my head and a boulder collided in '99. That was how it ended. It was not very easy to swallow. Anyway............
I am extra stoked to race Mass because this course kicked my a** back in '98 when a manufacturing flaw decided to show its ugly face on the fire road preventing me from making my race run.
So I am coming back with a vengence. Its me against the mountain!!
I look forward to meeting some of you guys and having a great time kicking off the season. We have excellent weather ahead.
Hope everyone has a safe trip down and remember to watch your speed in VA!!!! They will nail you.

Hey
If anyone is looking for a new chain guide for the race, I have 2...E.13 SRS+ 36-40, and a E.13 LG1+ 32-36, for sale.
If you are interested, look for a black Subaru Outback with a black Thule box on It.
I'll be there early on Friday :thumb:
