Big, open, lots of speed and momentum. One and two are the Santa Cruz twin towers. Flip a coin between Minnarr and Peat. Only real differentiation is if one is healthier than the other from last week's crashes.

If it stays dry and dusty, I'm going all in for Gwin.

In my heart I think a Santa Cruz will be on top step. As to which will take it on the day... can't say. I think Greg will be going full bore after last week and I also think Peaty will want to prove a point after breaking the curse last year.

Like I said though, I'm looking forward to being surprised. The nice thing is that there are a whole raft of riders that are able to put together inspired runs on the day. There's only a handful that are consistantly able to do that though.

I am rooting for Gwin. I honestly think the top 5 are going to be REALLY close.

1. Gwin
2. Peat

?. Atherton
?. Mennaar
?. Blenkinsop

every race, everyone says its Gwins "type of race," but yet it never seems to be
Gwins type of race (IMO) is a dry, dusty, long track. Only Val di Sole was like that, and he had the fastest first split (before he crashed).

The rest of the races have been pretty wet and he's still been consistant. He has the skills to win a race for sure. He just needs the stars to align...

+2.60secs on a 2 and a half minute course last week. why should he win this time on an even longer course? u guys need a reality check sometimes...
Uhh, some guys actually do better on longer courses than shorter ones.

But anyway, it seems that every race someone says Fairclough, Gwin, Danny Hart, etc. is going to win, but it's exceedingly rare that someone other than the usual suspects steps up. Fact is, I'd be shocked (but also psyched) if someone other than Peat, Minaar, Atherton, or Hill won . . . and Hill's a long shot at best due to his shoulder.

BTW, Who else is going to be trackside this weekend??

Is it me or does Hill seem to have bars with more of a rise. Not sure, just looked it in the day one practice video. Could be helping his shoulder??

Again, not a fan boy, just looked it in the video.

**EDIT, some of the other riders seem to have higher bars too?? Maybe I am just seeing too many locals with the flat bars that Kovarik hates...

My thoughts exactly. Im rooting for Gwin. He has only gotten fitter from last year.

Id like to see Blinky win too. I think Hill's injuries and (possible?) lack of confidence are gonna hold him back from taking the win. And of course Peaty and Minnaar are always contenders.

Peat, Minnaar, or Gee. I don't think anyone else has a hope in hell.

I'm not writing Hill off so readily. Broken elbow in '05 and he stomped everyone at Pila first race back, came into '07 w/ knee injury and we all know what happened, this year had ACL surgery less than 3 months before the season and about schooled everyone at Maribor until he forgot how to pull a tear-off. He's always had a way of understating injury and keeping making his own expectations closely guarded in interviews.

Rob Warner got him to joke about it a bit when he stopped in the booth at Windham. Something about having 8 seconds to play with after last year. . .

As far as I can see from pictures and saw last weekend all three Hill, Troy and Brenda are running higher bars. Damn just as I finally get a flat bar to be cool like all the kids they change again

I believe Fairclough is running Renthal's now, which makes sense given the whole Renthal being a british company and whatnot. Might Hill and Brosnan have made the switch from Funn?

From this pic on Peat's twitter last week, it doesn't look like he's worried about having his bars slammed.

Brendan runs about 1.5cm of spacers under his crown too. Short headtube on the Demo though.

I've stopped making predictions/hoping whoever is going to win as I've realised when I watch finals I end cheering everybody on hoping they will get on the hot seat, I'm a whore of a fan boy!

its gonna be between the usual players
minnar, atherton, blenki, gwin, peat, hill, fairclough
i'm 99% sure hill kept himslef pretty chilled at windham to keep out of the spotlight, come race run he'll be on it for sure.peats seem's to of come good. blinki, fairclough and gwin always seem to be hanging around but only 1 of them has ever won a race. and ofcourse theres atherton and minnar.

ok I've seen this quite a bit lately. We've been from super low (flat bars... yes I'm getting old), to high bars, 2.5" rise etc. then back to slammed but with a little rise (grinding out the underside of boxxer crowns, no spacers...some had no rise at all or even negative) and now we are back up. The demo has a really short headtube, not sure on the v10. why is everything being bumped up again?

and yes I know these guys are fast as hell and on quite a bit steeper tracks than us... but mount saint anne isn't anything that much steeper than what I'm use to riding.

on the same tracks racers were running really slammed setups not too long ago to get over the front end more...

I am going to go with Sam Hill for the win, the guy is unreal, you can't rule him out. After that, Peat, Minnaar, Gwin, and Gee.

Is there a contingency for Earl? Like if lifts don't run? Will they try to make a go of it on Sunday no matter what, or will they wait a day? Looking at the weather this morning, it seems like things could be getting real on Sunday.

the HT of the v10 is also pretty short and Peaty and Greg are big fellas.... Brendog on the other hand did his mods for Champery and Val di Sole if i remeber correctly and Brendog is around 1,83 m (ergo aslo not smal)

what rock have you been living under? ;)

or... you could come watch it in Canada, where it'll be free! :thumb:

btw, is it me, or are the Atherton's not rocking the new bike Dirt's been "following" for the past few weeks? I thought I saw a picture of it getting all built up at the Atherton's place in Wales? Could it be that it doesn't cut the mustard?

Pretty sure they said they were not going to ride it this season, just building them for testing. There is supposed to be a Euro gou on one though.

Prediction:

Sam Hill retires from downhill racing just seconds prior to his start this weekend, and announces plans to become an alpaca rancher*.

*alpacas will also receive body mods after shearing, to keep it extreme

Did you read the article that went with it or just look at the pretty picture?

why yes indeed I did, thanks for asking.

the caption under the second photo stating that they were "all looking shifty" is what caught my attention. I thought perhaps they might have plans that they weren't ready to announce just then. Since speculation is all part of the game that we play on the internetz, and since quite often new goodies are revealed at Worlds, I thought there might be an off chance this bike could make it's debut at Ste Anne. I guessed wrong. And you pointed it out. In a snarky fashion. that makes you the internet king. :thumb:
