Had a really good ride yesterday. 190km with 45% gravel. It was an organized event and everything was perfect from weather to pit stops and beer at the finish line. I rode conservatively in the beginning and did not really push the legs and could hammer home the last 50km. Total ride time was 8.42 with 2 rest stops and 5 pee break (my riding partner was leaking).

@jonKranked happy to report that the Di2 setup has been brilliant with XT RD and XT 42T cassette. No front derailleur so I can use each shifter for only one direction so I can more or less shift and brake at the same time like on a mtb.

Saturday we built a bridge over a stream where the heavy rains washed out a culvert earlier this year. Fun little project, wish we had more to build. Finally got the MTB out on Sunday. After a few weeks of riding the gravel bike, it was so good to smash rocks again.

It's 8:30 Monday morning and I have already snapped at two people at work. Sitting in a meeting and two people are sick. I said "Seriously!? Why am I even in this meeting, and why did you come into work??" Both people apologized. I have my Ironman in a week. I don't need this shit.

Good Morning!!

After a long weekend of hurricane cleanup, there's nothing better than a long week of work to really back it up.

Temps here in the Southeast Sauna have mellowed a bit today - of course it's on a day when my installs are inside.

Did you actually say that out loud?!

Power came back on last night at 11.

My kids school board (1 of 4 in the city), sent an email out saying school was not cancelled as a result of the power outages, so we could send our kids to school.

The federal government is the main employer here, and they sent out an email saying to avoid all unnecessary travel because power is still out to a lot of traffic lights in the downtown core, and to work from home if you can.

While I was out for a glorious ride yesterday afternoon, my wife took the kids to see a movie/hang out at the mall. She bought a waffle maker to celebrate when the power came back.

So this morning:

a) had waffles for breakfast
b) had the best coffee I've had in months (link) thanks to my coffee shop opening yesterday so I could buy beans
c) had a glorious commute on empty roads in bright sunshine and perfect temps (42°F)
d) am now sitting kid-free, in an office that is 3/4 empty.

Today is going to be a good day.

Great weekend of riding. Looks like this week will be filled with cool temperatures, cloudy skies and rain. Meh...Tonight I think I'll go for a quick hike at dusk with the hand saw and try to tackle a tree that fell two years ago.

It was fun just dicking around in the forest yesterday. Even met two friendly horse riders.

Found the first structural member that is rotted. It's a paid of 2x8's nailed together that go from the house out to the full depth of the deck and have two vertical supports. The 4' walkway area that transitions from the main deck to the stairs attaches to it and kind of hid it until I was replacing the connector screws. This now takes me to 13 of 40 joists, 15' of end cap, one horizontal structural member, and one railing upright. God, I fucking hate this prior owner.

Also, here. Slept well because of melatonin, but now I'm stupid tired. Giddy.

Hello all. Mini concert tonight (one piece at an exhibition basically at a local museum) then maybe a few laps around Green Mtn with lights before it all shuts down?

Started building new storage shed for side yard, read directions several times, measured repeatedly, used block instead of wood or cement for foundation (had many lying around doing nothing), still placed it wrong, now to start over......

Mornin!

Time to go rent some trail bikes and shred. Anyone got recommendations for trails here in Whistler?
Dark Crystal over on Blackcomb is supposed to be fun. I rode Microclimate last year and it was good. Man, you lucked out on weather...

Park or surrounding area?
Surrounding. I might get flamed for this but the fun to $$$ spent ratio works out much better riding trails than DHing for a few runs.

We’ve actually been in town/the area some earlier this week riding the rain out.

May I recommend riding bikes in and / or around Whistler?
I knew I could count on you.
