I grew up with SPDs, tried CB for a bit, but I bent a set of Mallets and I didn’t really like the excessive float. To vague all round. Went back to Spuds. Loved the old red DX ones but these days I run 454s and I consider them a wear part. The plastic cage protects my motor (axle) from the full intensity of occasional 30kph pedal strikes.
Got my first set of spds at 15. The same red dx ones, still have them. I rode cb for a few years, but have found myself back on shimano. Considering saint spd for my dh bike.

I have 4 pairs of Mallets and (knock on wood), they've never broken or anything. One pair is old enough that they are now silver, the red is gone.

Though round these parts, there aren't much chunky rocks like down in the glorious Pisgah region, where @Dirtrider is from.

They do all pop out the seal on the crank side of the spindle. Not sure what's up with that bologna.

I used the DX as well and later some 424s. Always had knee pain if I adjusted the springs so I would not pull out when sprinting. Thought it was my knees until I tried CBs for the first time. Glorious float, no issues with mud and no chance of accidental unclipping anymore.

Just did a backup for MIL's backup drive into Google Drive. 7 fucking hours to upload it.

Had to explain what "the cloud" is along with everything that goes along with that.

i finally gave my 15yo shimano spds and associated shoes to the local recyclery last year. ran clips way bacl in the day for maybe 8 or 10 years, but after i started on flats never felt the need to go back. heels down and plow, fuckers!

in other news, roasted lamb was delicious, as were post-meal porters and lying around on the patio in the 70* sun.

kids are on spring break this week. work stuff tomorrow. maybe ride tuesday. then off to the fucking beach until sunday. boooooooo this thing. boo.

My wife convinced me to roast a turkey today. Turned out nice, didn't dry out, but served as a reminder why I only cook a whole fucking turkey once a year at most.

Lamb roast worked fine, onions in cream sauce a failure, strawberries with heavy cream a win.

Been on spuds for like 22 years now. Tried times, hated the float. First 15 years were on the same set of 535s. Zero maintenance besides some wd40 now and then.

How so?

Unfortunately. We'll see what they have to say about this.
Not sure of the bearing layout but it could be plausible that excessive bolt tension could pull the bearing through causing delamination, good chance most of the fiber is wrapped axially. Could also just be lateral forces or poor manufacturing. Either way, seems sub optimal.
