The Commencal used a funny adapter, that meant you had to file / grind the frame down to even fit a 185mm, as the caliper contacted the frame.how, if the biggest fits, why cant a smaller fit? the rotors are not hollow in the middle, you sure?
not to forget, that Giant runs 180mm rotors on the Glory since 2007....The Commencal used a funny adapter, that meant you had to file / grind the frame down to even fit a 185mm, as the caliper contacted the frame.
And FYI, 185mm on the rear is becoming the industry standard: Commencal, Specialized, Morewood, even the new Turner, all either come stock with, or have 185mm post mounts built in.
I believe when HRC was in Switzerland last Minnnaaar used a 210 on the rear to make the mud sizzle! What woulddo?
Yes I am aware that the website says that...doesn't anybody ever do their own research? DIRECTLY FROM THE DEMO PAGE ON SPECIALIZED.COM
"FRAME M5 manipulated alloy, compact race design, 1.5" forged HT"
"HEADSET 1.5" integrated for 1 1/8" steerer, cartridge bearings"
THESE ARE THINGS MOST PEOPLE FIGURE OUT BEFORE DROPPING $$$ ON A FRAME.
Pretty sure it has a 203mm post mount instead of the standard IS or whatever.. but not 100% sure..how, if the biggest fits, why cant a smaller fit? the rotors are not hollow in the middle, you sure?
The new Demo is 100% compatible with a 203 rotor in the rear.Hey I have a new 2011 demo on the way, and I just had a few questions for anyone who might have one.
I have heard from multiple people that you cant run an 8 inch rotor in the rear because it comes way too close to rubbing on the frame, so you have to run a 185 rotor. any truth to this?
IS mount. NOT post mount.Pretty sure it has a 203mm post mount instead of the standard IS or whatever.. but not 100% sure..
Gotta ask the reasoning behind that decision?IS mount. NOT post mount.

The red-white frameset also comes with uci stripes, but my friend's 'sample' bikes that came 2 months ago didn't. Also slightly different oval nut at swing arm pivot. All green bikes coming with rainbow stripes?
what size is that? im assuming small. it looks awesome. Any close ups? mine should be here next week, along with my p3!I got mine built last week :
pic
Frameset (Indonesia retail box) came with :
- Thomson 30.9mm
- FSA Headset zero stack (Reducer installed on frame) w/ carbon spacers
- BB30 - 24 adapter (SRAM)
- Seat clamp (non QR)
- RD Hanger protector (but the pin is not saint M810 compatible)
- Manuals, Cable ties.. ready to go
Couple more things :
- Rubber Bumpers and Steerer spacer for FOX40 (included in box)
(apparently new demo is not FOX40 friendly (?) but they got free kit for it)
- Overall the paint could be better quality (few missing small lettering on the decals and some clear coat blemishes) but the details are amazing.
- Can't mount SRAM X7 10speed RD that i got one for testing/review, the limiter ring is larger than the cavity of demo's RD hanger.
- 38T (i'm lazy pedaller) chainring on saint M815 bb + 2 spacer rings barely fits, also E.13 LG1+ will fit with limited space (why dont they include the trick 9-26 cassette + hub for free hahaha)
- The chainstay protector is now bolted to the swing arm (kudos to the designers)
Hope this helps, i can post more pics if you want.
Greeting to JC, I've got 2006, 2007 and 2010 demos and the designers do a great job IMHO
Cheers

Nice. Saw a complete demo 1 the other day on a local trail as well. Good to see they are finally landing in North America. Super pumped...
Got my Demo 8 I built up - frames come with world championship stripes on the swingarm, but they are just easily removable stickers (which is good, 'cause I'm not the world champion).
Apparently so - a video a while back confirmed they'd tweaked it for more rearward movement.Has the wheel path changed on the new demo to something more rearward?
13.5" / 64*What's the BB/HA at now for the 2011's?
Looking at the pivot placement I doubt it. Not that it matters, rearward axle paths are were only really ever a marketing idea.Has the wheel path changed on the new demo to something more rearward?
I've ridden older demos; rearward axle path isn't marketing when you can feel your momentum slowing on square hits.Looking at the pivot placement I doubt it. Not that it matters, rearward axle paths are were only really ever a marketing idea.
Interesting. What bike did you find maintained it's momentum on such terrain?I've ridden older demos; rearward axle path isn't marketing when you can feel your momentum slowing on square hits.
so the new demo sucks for square hits?I've ridden older demos; rearward axle path isn't marketing when you can feel your momentum slowing on square hits.
Ever rode an older Yeti 303? The ones with the dual rails. I rode a friend's, he's roughly the same height/weight as me, and my first thought was "wholly crap its like cheating through rock gardens".Interesting. What bike did you find maintained it's momentum on such terrain?
Mainly single pivots an VP style bikes. I rode a Demo 9 for four seasons and have ridden two demo 8's (06 and 08).Interesting. What bike did you find maintained it's momentum on such terrain?
so the new demo sucks for square hits?
Dear 2011 Demo Owners!
How heavy are you and what spring weights did you use so far!
Thanx in advance
Thanx a lot!About 175 lbs and the stock 400 lbs spring that comes with the medium. But I want to try a 350 lbs spring since I was only getting about 23-25% sag when it was measured at the shop.
correct, my red/white frame has them as well.....The red-white frameset also comes with uci stripes, but my friend's 'sample' bikes that came 2 months ago didn't. Also slightly different oval nut at swing arm pivot.
