And a review would be nice. Sorry I wasn't there, the wife wanted me home for a few days after Nationals, and if I spent another birthday riding I was bound to be unpopular.

This was my first dual race; probably the best time Ive ever had on my bike. I just wish I could have gotten the gap from the table in the middle of the first set to the last roller thing. I was getting the first double in that set, but I couldnt get the second gap. I think I would have had a much better time had I gotten that down... oh well. Between the slalom and riding all of the other trails on the mountain, I had a blast. Especially barreling down powerline :D I met alot of really nice people too, and ended up riding the basin side with 6 people, and then later today two people from Pittsburgh showed me and my friend how to get down to powerline, and we rode it and the sport course almost all day. Awesome weekend.

That would imply that there was a bloated licensing organization involved with the race.

I had a blast. The weather held and race day was beautiful. Props to the guys laying the course out, it was a great mix of old and new stuff.

Shut up and ride...
After smacking into a tree 3/4's of the way down, I was just happy I was able to finish.

I didn't ride the course as much as I should have.

All that equals = I suck!

Hell
what does the category breakdown have to do with norba? Seems the category breakdown used in Snowshoe Race #2 puts pretty big gaps WITHIN the categories - the Mens Amateur 18-39, had freakin' 40 people with a gap of 2min between 2nd place, and 35th place. Not to mention that's a pretty broad age range

I guess since they're cutting the checks (another non-NORBA feature), Snowshoe gets to decide how the classes are set up.

MikeT... Skill has nothing to do with age.

Snowshoe had the guts to do away with all the bracket crap and just offer a simplier (more competitive) system. Much like Europe and Australia. Intro for true first timers. An Amateur class with a few break down in ages, and Open for anyone who thinks they're a bada$$. If you don't like it race a NORBA so you can get your fix from getting on the podium in a class of 5. :nopity:

Plus take this into consideration, it was a very tough ~5 minute run on widely varying terrain. It reaquires a lot of strength and skill to have a clean, solid run. I applaud Snowshoe for offering a real race course. Not these 2:30 minute speed runs with not enough tech to seperate competitors.

ofcourse the bigger the field, the more competitive it is, but for the guys/gals who are in the lower half of the results, it's a lot harder to move up - kind of discouriging especially if you got 40 people in your category.

I much prefer the snowshoe categories. Who wants to podium at a Norba event where you only had to beat 6 other guys to get on the podium. I think it raises everyone's game to braoden the categories and a good result is really a good result! It makes me want to get faster so I can be in the mix. I rather have a tough challenge then an easy podium any day.

Not to mention I met so many new people and everyone was just stoked to be there.

Snowshoe puts on a great race, and the crew does an awesome job of laying out a race course. Can't wait until the August race:sneaky:

ok.
we get it.
you obviously have the skills and ability to do a much better job of race organizing than the snowshoe crew.

we are anxiously awaiting the announcment of your vastly superior series.
until then go rain on someone elses parade.

because everyone there this weekend had a blast.
no matter what their placing was.

Depends on what type of person you are. I finished in the last half of those 40 people you talk about and I'm not discouraged at all. Just the opposite - now I'm beyond motivated to ride more, and I had the best time there over the whole weekend and that is what it is about. Sure, I want to get become a better and faster rider because I'm competitive, but it's about having fun and the comradarie of it all. I may be sitting here in my office, but I'm thinking about the weekend and what an awesome time i had. I did not nearly have this much fun at Norba # 2 at Sugar where they break down 100 different age and skill groups.

Exactly Jonnynails!

Get faster and the results will follow. Other than that how on earth can anyone have anything negative to say about this past weekend. I had one of the best races I've had in years and I got bottom of the pile in the open class (bib 96). But I'll take the experience of pushing myself out of my shell and return next month to do my best again, regardless of the result.

All whiners should be thrown into "zee Puma cage":D

snowshoe is great buy why does everyone get their panties in bunch when anyone says anything bad about them?

Because they are doing more for the DH scene in the South and Mid-Atlantic region than anyone else. Lifts, trails, races, terrain, etc.

true........however.....you also need fitness, commitment, and the ability to hang it out there..........(to do well) which typically comes much easier the younger you are plus you get to heal faster........................

Mind you no complaint about the race it was great! Although, even if it wasn't that great, I would not complain, a) b/c I could not do better b) I don't have that kind of time or energy. I usually leave the complaining department to the new skool DH racer that doesn't find all the roots in the right place.

I say SS should have 2 classes
Class I: old, fat, married, own a house, have kids and work 50-60 hour a week class
Class II: everyone else...............LOL

I can easily say a Great time was had by all this weekend.

PS
Man it was cold saturday night! Somebody needs to tell the mountain it is July!

while i do see you valid point.

here's my take on old guys racin d.h.
the guy that won the 40+ class is probably ten years younger than me and trains for racing.
he earned every second that he put on john and i.
he deserved it.

and in no way did it take away from the good times we had.
when i got to the bottom after my timed run, and gathered my breath back up.
i was in the midst of a pack of old 40+ d.h. riders who all had BIG smiles on their faces.
and we were all commenting about the guys our age who have long since given up living an active life.

i have just as much respect for the winner of our class all the way down to the guy with the slowest time.
because we were out there.
livin life and havin a frikkin blast.

and yeah.
how bizarre is wearing multi layers of clothes in july ?

see ya in august.
look me up.
i'll be the only one riding a DH9 (black)
where did all those bikes go ?
the mt. used to be crawlin with em.

I know that dude that took the 40+ class. He has been in the game a while and a regular at Platty etc. He is a fast guy!

Since I am in for the fun now (beat my body enough in DH and BX for the last 10 years), racing is social for me and although most times it is cool racing against the young guys b/c if a beat a few it makes me feel better (since I am knocking on the ceiling of the 18-39 class), although sometimes it is cool to mix it up race wise with a bunch of guys who are in my own demographic/lifestyle. Looking back on the race line and betting the dude behind you a beer or joking about how much advil it will take to get out of bed tomorrow to go to work is all part of the fun, instead of looking behind you and seeing an kid 20 years younger than you that instead of betting him you give him girl advice or review his times tables.

I think there is greater difference btw 18 and 39 and less of a difference than say 30 and 45. I still think we do not need 80 classes, keep the two, but split it by "lifestlye". 18 to 29 (still the rockstar years) and 30+ (the hope I can get out the bed tomorrow for work or the wife will kill me years).

Complaining? No just my thoughts............. I still had a rocking time and I have already mark the claendar for Monster park!

Shut up and ride...
if you break it down to basics, in my case, I'm 40 years old. I started riding in '03. In that summer and fall, I've ridden 7 weekends total, ending in three broken ribs. I did not ride for two years (21 months), and the bike just sat. I had the bike fixed one year ago this coming weekend. I rode maybe a total of 5 weekends.

Did 2 shuttles in Feb and March. April, rode Loggers Alley one day. Rode as Massanutten for the race. Rode 4 runs the first SS race. One Saturday at WG. and then this past weekend. Total, that's it.

I rode the race course this past Friday and had a blast. My race run was pathetic at best. I am upset I didn't ride it better...

I'm a beginner and was still able to ride most of the pro course and many of go-rounds...

BUT!!!!!

I had a friggin blast! Snowshoe and everyone there made me feel welcomed. they treated me the same way they treat the pro's and more well known riders. They were respectful and extremely helpful. Rob in the shop took such good care of me! Numerous times when crap broke.

Well organized, and they treat everyone well. Are they perfect? No. But they're damn close! :thumb:

Thanks SS for a great weekend!!!

I know that this event went great. But say last event, which was a disaster that they eventually handeld well thanks to tattoo making a fool out of himself. Everyone went ape **** on him just for saying that HE wasent going to be going back up to snowshoe. I love it up there i just think its funny how any critisim is immediatly deemed as untrue.

i miss the old days of the large classes at the nationals, like j-nails said it is motivating to do better, although a good chunk of the pro classes has changed since the late 90's
