No it's not perfect, but it works.

update: another proper ride yesterday with significant climb/drop and this set up works just fine. Zero shifting issues with the 10sp rear XT, pg990 cassette and X9 9sp shifter.

I'll still try Ted's cable spacer to see if/how it improves.
