I had a RST on my 1992 Giant , a huge 50mm of travel , Later on when i bought my 1st Cheeta , I got it with the recently released RST MOZO 4.5 , What a fork that was LOL , compared to the Judy and the Mag,s it had close to twice the travel , but once it got cold , or wet it crapped out in performance . The Judy spring swap for the foam, springs helped but it had no rebound really .

I had an RST Mozo Pro with a whopping 3.5" of travel. Works really well in could, wet Wales with the elastomers basically solid. I forgot what the knobs were supposed to adjust but they did nothing.

Also the arch bolts worked loose - that's probably my fault though

<<< Also hit in the face with one of those topcaps.

"Plastic threads bracing a heavily loaded spring? SURE! Let's do it!!"
man, susension forks in those days were such amateur hour crap.

I had a RST AEROSA (WTF???) 381 fork back in 2000-2001. It used a plastic cartridge with air for both preload and damping. And you had to take it off the fork to modify the rebound damping -or that's what they said, I did it twice and never felt a difference between the four detents it had. When trying to undo the plastic top cap for the third time, I rounded the damn think up. One week later the lower's bridge snapper while jumping from the sidewalk to the street.

Then I went and ordered my first real fork from Jenson, a RS Psylo XC.

How about Brooklyn Machine Works?? There site is showing some pretty nice hipster hardtails these days. They all say sold out, but their last site update was just a year ago...

What about Sinister Bikes? They still around?

Miss the good ol' days of East Coast Downhill "brands"

When I was repping for Cheeta and doing my Demon archs for the Marz Z1 and Monster T , the original 3 owners from Sinister bought some of my arch,s from me . They also came out to BC and I spent several days touring them around the North Shore and several other local riding spots . Frank the welder was building their frames back then , I think in the end he bought the company from them .

Reading through and reminiscing about some of the brands.

I blame Shaums March! That dude has ridden more ghosts listed here than anyone I can think of!

Mountain Cycles, Ellsworth, Chumba Wumba, Schwinn, (and I believe Norco and Marin as well)

they had some photos up on bookface. not a bad looking bike, but a BB concentric. Might be fun for park mashing, I guess. Cheap too, $1500!

Cheap, strong, monster bikes with good geo like that Rotec is what 95% of the riders on the mountain need. Not a featherweight fragile race rig.

Their trail bike rig looks like it falls into the same category. Simple, cheap, effective enough. No hype or extra BS.

That's one company I hope keeps doing what it's doing. Needs to be someone else besides GG doing the US hand-built thing with some standard of quality and durability. Foes does not count.

How about Intense?
First name that comes to mind when I think "quality", "durability" and "some standard".

don't know if anybody else can see this photo. do you really think that's hand made in the USA? for 1500? dollar to doorknobs that suckers made in taiwan or even china. Not that it's the worst thing- you can't get a us made frame for what it costs to get one from taiwan.

but you do have to appreciate the subtle comedy of them saying that shock technology has come far enough that they don't have to worry about putting the pivot in the wrong spot.

I once had a Quadra 21 with an intelligent lock-out feature. It actually anticipated when it needed to be locked-out, usually when it was really *ucking cold outside. Then the elastomer would stop working and BAM, once you hit a good compression or hit, it would fully compress and then comeback up like a pogo stick. Those were the dayz!

Exactly like this piece of shit

Nope, just us is good with me :)
Then you better get going with a straight tube'd or monocoque, 5" travel, 26" wheel'd bike that is a mix of XC and dual bike (remember those old Blur 4x?) so I can finally stop buying NOS or used unridabru VPP bikes from this other (former) Made in the USA brand.

Get a Trail Pistol, error on the side of sizing down, put it in Plush Mode, run normal 27.5 wheels, and that's pretty close to what you're describing.

This might be the only time you EVER hear me say this: That might be too low.

Dropping from 27.5 to the correct wheelsize only drops half an inch. Dropping from Road wheels to 27.5 is 0.75.

Oh god. I just made a potential argument for plus sized tires

No I didn't

I hate myself right now.
