Kick butt MBC!
TOO much time in the office this weekend will keep me local.

Figure there's always next year to scope out the beg women's DH series. By then, you can give me all the tips!

Will be thinking of you and sending lots of positive vibes...you go grllll!!!

And snatch up that schwag!

YAAY, MBC, YAAY MBC, YAAY MBC!!!

You should see her bruises and torn pads. :dead:
well they're not that bad. I suppose I should clarify so you know I'm not a complete wuss....

We got there at the crack - 9am for practice on Saturday AM. We went down the first grassy section, took a left into the trail and the section called Rox rocks. It was slick and some of the rocks were moss covered. Walking was more dangerous than riding. We got off our bikes to look around and couldn't even stand. Then the train came - the guys - everyone from beginner class through the pros. I had no time to take it slow, find a line and retry sections before getting RUN over. Trying to walk down, you slid right on your butt.

We even took the lift up and tried it a second time. I got psyched out.

I was with my cousin - who was on a borrowed bike but used to riding a 3.5" travel XC race bike. It was just a bad idea.

We left the course and rode the rest of the mountain. We found some of the other courses from the series (the maxxis tape was still up - good job, litter patrol) and those courses, while muddy and slick were much friendlier.

If I had gotten 1 clean practice run in (including mapping out sections to walk) I would have done it.

So today I'm sore, embarrassed, humbled and tired.

maybe next year.

You made the right decision! Better to have a good 1st time race experiance and want to come back for more then to totally hate it!

I made the same decision you did for my first attempt at racing and slept in the day of the race due to horrible conditions and a practice run full of cussing and sliding around.

Don't get discouraged and try it again with better course conditions. Hope you had a great day of riding!

MBC - I think you made a wise decision.

Perhaps next year you and IAB can hit the Mountain a couple times on non race days and then you'll be ready to rock when the next race series begins next year.

I know you can do it given the right conditions!!!

Don't sweat it! I did that same exact thing twice last year at Mt. Snow after deep doo doo deluges - called it "un-racing!". A good 1st experience is important in dh racing!

I think I hear the fun (even when wet) sport/beginner course at the Platty October race calling your name?!

I think I need a bullit ;)

Doh!!!

I think Titus makes a DH frame don't they? The Supermoto or something like that.

Just get em to sponsor you and Phil as a couple!

I mean, Phil was already sportin the Titus T-shirt in Ashford. Plus Titus needs a better New England presence!

MBC...

As I do when I feel tired, and I just feel like I may be in a little over my head on a tech stunt or something... I climb off, or bypass the section and call out "LIVE TO RIDE ANOTHER DAY" I say it out loud to motivate myself for the next time, as well as reminding myself of my limitations and family obligations!

you did the right thing!

Yup... my bullit did me good. Got me my win and the series win (sport women)!

I felt so bad for you. The boy-train through Rox's rocks was intimidating and nerve wracking. Nevermind that the trail itself was formidable.

I second McG's idea on hitting any of the downhill places for practicing. It really really helps.

so that's why i didn't see anyone riding a moto-lite. it's hard to step away from something when you've shelled out that much cash, but sometimes it's for the best. after walking that course i must say that i would be quite leery riding it on an xc/trail bike as some sections are quite sketchy looking. i got a ton of pictures from the race but few turned out well. i also snuck on the lift with a borrowed bike and a borrowed helmet and goggles and got in 2 runs. those open trails are fast!! i had no gloves or armor so i was on the brakes quite often just hoping that the bike i was on would hold its line as i haven't dhed in a while and i was riding a bike i wasn't used to. when we took the fire road down from the top lift i think that was the fastest i have ever gone on a mountain bike, maybe even any bike in general.
