Nice. The first of my four 24 hour MTB relay races, and I have also since run five marathons and a shitload of other races. The pic below is easily the worst I have ever felt physically in any race. In hindsight, I had no business being on a bike at that moment.
Now that you are a super-baboon, and 24 hour races are passé. You should come down and do the Shenandoah Mountain 100 in September.Nice. No No No , 24 Hrs of Pats Peak is calling his name !
No doubt leadville is one of the hardest races out there. But I can assure you any real mountainbiker will have more fun at the Shen 100. More oxygen to breath and a shitload more singletrack.
I think it was 17 laps. I was much younger and ambitious in those days. It was also my first 24 solo race and was fueled by ignorance as much as anything. I never had much success solo after that, always ran into stomach issues. It didn't help that those event got a lot more competitive after that. Found 2 person teams were my strength. You had to ride much harder but having a little time to digest food makes all the difference.@Westy how many times did you ride the course over the 24 hours?
I would say ride it hard all day, drink some beer, good night sleep and then ride it some more the next day is more my style but I guess you can swing it that way too in a 24 hour race.
how many people die during that?
Well, it ain't your bbirthday, that's fer sure.how many people die during that?
As far as I know, Leadville now only exists for one purpose (and i bet you know what that is)
You just made the list...I hate to break it to you, but most people have you blocked. They just don't want to have anything to do with your racist rants.
Yep, healed up as good as I can. Now both knees have new ACL's. I lurk here every once in a while, life has been hectic but good. Going to try to ride tomorrow, first trail ride in over a year in a half. How are things with you & everyone else?Damn look what the cat drug in^^^^

that's for daisies......worked with a veterinarian who completed the trail run version.
Are you this guyContributing recently and not with the site's inception & core followers, I am unable to say much on topic. By far RideMonkey is the most rewarding getting involved with the bike compared to any Mountain Bike forum.
The Iron Horse / DW Link thread has no comparison: it speaks directly to the mess of bloated industry and at the excess overhead presented by it. Yet it emulates a similar core group as RideMonkey, something any manufacturer would value, and be proud to see and have cultivate on it's own.
Forums, Social Media allow instant gratification and can sway focus from new promising ideas. But it rightly allows snarky, cheeky methodology toward retaining core value. Everything I've read and have replied to on the site has never been done out of immediate dissatisfaction, or from the need to identify within the sport. I've always approached what is larger than myself from within my own self at the start, if the effort is appreciated than - instant new pastime.
Since asked, the Site has not 'gone downhill'. RideMonkey embodies Human Soul within the Over-Soul, much like a promising relationship allows growth and keeps one healthy and happy. Content within is without equal.
My favourite race, finished several times. Now that you are a super-baboon, and 24 hour races are passé. You should come down and do the Shenandoah Mountain 100 in September.
Could never do it back in my racing heydays due to an annual trade show I had to attend. No problem now that I am fat and old.My favourite race, finished several times.
Was tough doing it and the Fools Gold 100 on back-to-back weekends a couple of years ago racing SS. Always satisfying to get an overall series finish in the NUE though.

I had a colossal implosion two years ago up the death climb. I bet my blood sugar levels were in the single digits. I really don't know how I manged to keep moving.
I would have done much better if I didn't have to keep stopping and powdering my wig. You're such a dandy
eeew...I would have done much better if I didn't have to keep stopping and powdering my merkin.
whoa, don't lump me in with those guys...Does RM need another intellectual infusion of users like Acadian and Sandwich/The Flyin' Fat Man? Sure. It's coming. So long as we, the keepers of the flame, the knowledge base that is our shared experience, continue to show the curious - the n00bs who are thinking about trying the sport we love, by posting here at RM - it's all good. Udi leads the charge in this capacity.
Maybe some high quality entertainment will do the trick:Just not sure how we're going to attract new members...!
