and what do you drive? and do you complain about it (a la Brian HCM #1)? :D

me: '96 pathfinder, 4wd, 31"s ==> 16-18 mpg :dead: , but i don't drive much so end up spending $90-125 at least judging from the past few months. i'm guessing that ski season trips will balance out with bike season trips...

I spend about $90 (two tanks of premium), more if I roadtrip so say ~$100 average. I'm lucky in that i can ride my bike to work everyday, it's an easy ~2miles each way.

About 20-30 bucks a month tops. I chip in on friend's gas when we go on roadtrips or travel to bike races. Other than that I don't drive so I don't have to fill anything up.

I spend about $150-175 per week on gas. I have a Dodge Dakota truck and a Ford Expedition. Yes, $600-700 per month on gas. Ouch.

I fill up twice a month and spend about $70 -$80/month...unless I'm doing trips up to Whistler every other weekend.

04 Jetta Wagon TDI, 40+mpg, 500+miles per tank. Gotta love those turbo-diesels :D

So Cal
It depends on the cost of gas, and how many days a week of work I can get out of ;) . I drive appx 50 - 55 miles a day going to and from work (total, 26 iles each way or so). I try to ride my bike if I am going anywhere under 5 miles or so. It's hard to not drive in So Cal. Here everything is really spread out. My mom lives like 30 - 40 minutes away, and it takes me an hour to get to my dads place, and I visit them often.

The GF and I plan on getting out of So Cal, and hopefully into an area where public transpo is cleaner and more reliable and convenient, and where it is bike friendly. So Cal is NOT bike friendly.

I drive a Honda CRV. I don't complain about my gas milage or about not being able to fill up all at one shot. And I am a fan of gas guxxling cars. I love old Mustang Fastbacks with big motors. Yeee haw! but I also understand that that car is not practical for driving everyday, so I drive the Honda.

ok, i spend about $36/wk on gas (one full tank). so, $36x4=$144/mo. while driving the 2003 Toyota Tacoma. I still can't figure out if having the gate down improves gas mileage..? any physicistsststtssttS?

i was going from the www.fueleconomy.gov predicted fuel costs, which state that an auto 4-banger honda accord should cost $999 a year to fuel up...
Not sure but it may be estimated on 12k miles a year which many people do more. I for one drive 20-25k.

Between me and my wife ~$400-$500 a month depending on the # of trips down the hill to the greater Denver Metro area..
Damn.

If we're including all vehicles and spousal driving, we probably tip $200/month for our Subaru and Honda Odyssey.

-S.S.-

Edit: I take it back. Looks like we're right around $150/month

I've got a 2000 Toyota Solara v6 that gets about 20 - 26 mpg, depending on whether or not my bike is on the roof. Commute to and from work is 18 miles, r/t. I bring my bike to work probably 4 days a week and ride after work anywhere from 8 to 30 miles away. A tank of fuel usually lasts about a week and is around $35 to $40.

About $80 - $100 a month on gas, at least $180 - $200 a month on the bus.

Maybe 2 fill ups a month so under $80 I guess. I don't drive much during the week so that's mostly interstate miles. 20mpg on my old 95 4wd Cherokee, and I don't know what yet on my new 05 2wd Element. Hoping for high 20s.

I voted for the $40 to $80 range. But that figure is misleading. I really spend around 120 or more per month. Here's how I get my figure: I'm married and we have 1 vehicle so I divided by 2. I bike commute every day so my personal number would be closer to zero. My wife has to drive from Annapolis to Baltimore a couple of times a week and we usually travel on the weekends. We're driving a 1996 Mazda truck with 200K on it getting around 20 mph highway and 15 city. If my wife doesn't have to commute then we go through a tank of gas every 2 weeks or so.

Also wouldn't this survey be better if you accounted for gallons of gas since people in different places (east coast / west coast) pay drastically different prices for gas? I'm averaging around 64 gallons per month I'd guess.

Damn, I would think you would get more. My Passat has 165,000 miles on the clock and I can get close to 460 miles on a tank regularly. The most was I think @ 520 miles on 18 gallons of 91 octane.

I would love to put a TDI in an old Rabbit and see what kind of mileage it gets in such a light body.

No it's about right. The last fill-up I put in 12.8gal (I only have a 14gal tank) I had run about 530 miles which comes up to about 41.4mpg. Which is about right for mix city/hwy driving. If I do all highway I'll usually get in the 44mpg range. The most I've gotten was 46.6mpg and the least was 39mpg. A friend has a TDI Golf and he gets upper 40's mpg on a regular basis.

Oh, this was for each month? Im guessing that between all 3 cars in my family and my Dad driving between NH and CT each week our family spends about 400 dollars a month on gas, easy. 1 diesel bug @ 50mpg , 1 saab 9-3@ 23 mpg and 1 toyota @ 20mpg.

Cost me $55 to fill up yesterday, with a 25 gallon tank. I fill up every 2 weeks or so. More now since racing season has started. Got me an eff-one-fiddy, V6, stick, and I still get 17-19mpg. :dead:

my commute is short (~20 miles rt) and i usually have to fill up about twice a month, at under $25 per tank (about 11 gallons).

we'll see how much driving i do this summer; heading up for DH trips will definitely cost more, but i can't see doing more than 2 trips per month.

not sure how much my wife uses, probably around $100 per month to fuel up the MINIVAN three times and shuttle the kids around.
