As the title says. I am thinking of getting the 2010 Glory 1. I was going to just get the frame but they don't make an xs in frame only. So I am thinking of the 1 and swapping out parts I already have.
I already have Hugi FR hubs which are DT 440s. I am going to lace them to 721s or 729s not sure yet. I have Saint brakes, Deity Dirty 30s, Point One Direct mount stem, Thompson MasterPiece seat post, Specialized Toupe 130 ti seat and Point One Podiums. Its a great looking bike. Considering the price difference there isn't that many downgrades over the Glory 0, and the 1 is lighter. The Wheels are the only major thing I'd upgrade.
Thanks RPK, that's what my lbs told me. I told him to pull the trigger on it so hopefully.Just checked Giant's online dealer website and the Glory 1, size XS has limited availability, meaning you should be good to go! Go for it soon, you won't be disappointed!
nah it was a joke to stir the pot, personally im not a huge fan of the 59 degree headangles.slack enough for me. My last 3 frames were an 04 demo9, 07 sxt and an 09 demo7. so I am not worried about it.
Good thread about the headangle.the measured HA numbers from a couple of sources are slacker than the giant geo table, by 0.5 to 1 degree from what i've seen.
i remember reading about a UK company offering slacker-izing inserts for the head tube. not sure how that works on the 1.125 end...?
yes I do.You ride up at Diablo?
Boxxer Team Vs Race, DHX 4 Vs a vivid? Atlas Vs the FSA's? Think the Giant has the demo beat for a build....The new Demo 8 I is cheaper, has very similar spec and in my opinion has better geometry. If you're demos have served you well, I dont see a good reason to switch to the Giant.
Demo HA is 63 and the BB is 3/4 lower. Every Glory I've measured is 65+ with a 14" plus BB.You've got a point, the Boxxer Team is a nice bump up in spec for sure, but you can drop the damper in the race and make it more or less a team. I hate raceface cranks, so would actually take the the FSA. And it's a Vivid 4.1 vs a DHX 4, pretty much dead even there, just preference. Considering the Demo is 325 dollars cheaper, I would say they are pretty well matched. 1.5 degrees slacker in the HT and .75 inches lower in the BB would be the deciding factor for me.
It appears your mission in every thread is to bash on the glory. You have alot of hate towards a bike. Did you get run over by one?Demo HA is 63 and the BB is 3/4 lower. Every Glory I've measured is 65+ with a 14" plus BB.
Spec doesn't mean ****. You got the right bike

You know I was really looking forward to that bike. Sure it looked a bit steep in those photo's of Rando but the production bike would be sorted right? I discounted the listed geo as it's often wrong. Anyway I've measured a couple and the listed geo is pretty accurate. Did a few runs with others at Whistler and everyone thought the bike was so bad they would change the geo or nobody would buy it. Anyway turns out Giant US don't really have a clue what they're doing or give a crap which is basically the opposite of Specialized R&D.It appears your mission in every thread is to bash on the glory. Actual HA measures 62.7deg. I haven't personally measured that but it's from a trusted source.Specialized site says 64 in the lowest and a 13.5 BB?
How can it be "so bad" when it has same geo (on paper) as previous generation, which has been very good bike till the end of 2009?!You know I was really looking forward to that bike. Such a shame as the engineering is second to none IMO.
do you realize that theres about an inch of stanchion above the fork clamps on that 40?? if you put the fork legs all the way down it will be much slacker, yes it will raise the BB but with the right spring rate and sag it will ride just fine. You don't really have to go as far as measuring all the angles manually.
Just open a couple of browser tabs with catalogue bike pics and drag one over the other to see the difference between fork angles.
I'm not saying it's completely precise, but it's easy and says a lot.
I compared the following pics:

As you can see, all the other bikes incl. 2009 Glory are slacker than 2010 Glory, hell even the freeride Kona with a 160mm fork is, if only by a tiny bit.
As long as the pics on Giant website reflect the production bike, and all pictured bikes are perpendicular to the ground, I feel confident to say the bike is steep for a modern DH bike.
Yes the previous bike was 64deg and 14" flat BB. Hardly state of the art but to go the wrong way from those numbers a major f**k up.How can it be "so bad" when it has same geo (on paper) as previous generation, which has been very good bike till the end of 2009?!
My Glory, with Totem is less than 65*
In the interests of your own personal safety, I must advise you against this...I may try the stock Mich
They are that bad....? Never used anything but maxxis, intense, and kenda for dhIn the interests of your own personal safety, I must advise you against this...
Ar we talking about reality or numers on the web? Coz, on paper, it wasn't http://www2.giant-bicycles.com/en-US/bikes/mountain/1281/29369/?collections_id=3Yes the previous bike was 64deg and 14" flat BB. Hardly state of the art but to go the wrong way from those numbers a major f**k up.
I haven't measured the bike with a Totem but the A-C can't be more than a 10 Boxxer can it ?
yeah on paper the new Glory has the same ht angle as last years except for the 2010 xs wich is 65.0. I haven't measured my ht angle yet but with the spacers removed from under the top crown, the boxxer stanchions slid down over an inch more now. Also a 2.5 HR on the rear and the stock front tire the bb height is under 14". 13.90" to be exact measured from center of bb. So untill people actually ride it and stop e-speculating and listening to the e-rumors. I wish they would stop ragging on the GloryAr we talking about reality or numers on the web? Many ppl have said that numbers on Giant's 2010 web-site are wrong. My bike, amongs others new Glories, proves it.
Totem's A-C is 5mm shorten than Boxxer's IIRC
