Is your camera the D70?Me and Mrs. H8R are armed to the teeth for when baby arrives in April -
Plus we have a point 'n shoot. And a Polaroid. And a Minolta film SLR. And a Nickelodeon 4X film camera.
That poor kid.

Not sure. Since I wasn't using it, I loaned it to my father-in-law to try out on his D40. I told him that I was going to sell it, but he could see how it compared to his kit lens. It probably hasn't been used thereBlue, take note. That lens ROCKS on a D40. The AF is fast and quiet.
How much are you asking for it?
More bang, less photo. Before the Nikon low light bashing starts up again, it ain't all bad:
So you have multiple D70 camera's or something?D70s (updated version of the D70)
well, it's no 5D.The D300 is pretty much dead even with the 40D noise wise. I own one and use the other every week, for what it's worth.
True enough.well, it's no 5D.
new camera announcement from Canon in 3.5 weeks.
Well, you were comparing solely on the basis of noise, not price or performance...and 5D is 2.5 years older, has more MP, and is half the price?
yeah, apparently there was some mirror box adjustment on some mkIIIs that did the fix. since i'm not gonna spend 4.5K on a body, i didn't follow the story too closely.
well from the bit i read, it wasn't a widespread, consistent issue w/ all bodies, and apparently canon has figured out the issue and recalled and fixed the affected unitsWell, you were comparing solely on the basis of noise, not price or performance...
I was at an Oilers game in late November, and stuck up a conversation with a Canon guy shooting the game. I asked him why no Mk3, and he laughed and he said, "It doesn't focus." To be fair, it doesn't happen all the time, but in some pretty specific situations. The fact that they are situations where the camera is pretty heavily used is the problem...
as it is, i've got 7 canon-specific lenses and a flash gun, so i'm not about to take a bath just to switch systems. The folks I have been running into have been purchasing the d300 and can't stop singing it's praises. Most have come from the 20d / 30d camp with a few 1D users and were going to step up to the MKIII. They see a op to be able to purchase two N***n bodies for less then one MKIII with out the abysmal PR baggage. Really telling is I know a couple of acclaimed photographers who have sold what was previously Nikons flagship D2XS to get the 300 and they say it beats it hands down. As for myself I have way too much invested in Canon glass to do anything but stick it out. My repaired MKIII seems to be working as intended now that I have reset all the custom functions to my liking.
There is almost nothing on a D70s that can't be changed via a quick button/wheel combo. I've even changed some settings without taking the camera from my eye.D70S bodies are CHEEEAP. If I can get a decent all-around lens here in the next few months I'll definitely let go of the d40 body and kit lens for one. The lack of bulk and AF on the camera (as well as lack of dials - navigating through menus to change iso is the suck) kind of kills it for me.
how about a lens? There is almost nothing on a D70s that can't be changed via a quick button/wheel combo.
how about a lens?
For sure. Once you're in, you're in. Unless you're stupid, rich, or someone else is footing the bill for the gear.as it is, i've got 7 canon-specific lenses and a flash gun, so i'm not about to take a bath just to switch systems.
I wish I had two grand to drop on fancy stuff.
BTW, D300 lowlight performance still sucks compared to the nice Canon bodies. And my D40 suffers at ISO 800:
it's from POTN, a canon-centric site. i think they don't want nikon coming up in searches, so people usually type noink. For sure. Once you're in, you're in. Unless you're stupid, rich, or someone else is footing the bill for the gear.
Where'd you pull that quote from? I love the way Nikon is starred out like that...
why doesn't the ISO show up in the EXIF? everything else does. Before the Nikon low light bashing starts up again, it ain't all bad:
Still life is a no brainer.I have no problem with my d40's low light performance.
Blue underexposed his photo pretty badly...and that doesn't do good things with regards to noise...I have no problem with my d40's low light performance.
If I remember I batched the pics from that set in Picasa, which fvcks w/ the EXIF data.why doesn't the ISO show up in the EXIF? everything else does.
What do you know about low light photography. **** all, I bet...plus, ISO 800 ain't low light.
No. not yet.H8R, does anyone in Neurosis ever play a candle?
A firmware patch won't change the crummy CCD sensor in his camera.y'all prolly know this but i'll toss it out anyway...
You know you can download patches/software/firmware updates etc for your camera off Nikon's website right?
http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?goingto=dtc_home
weird that Picasa would delete ISO, since it's reporting things i have no clue about:If I remember I batched the pics from that set in Picasa, which fvcks w/ the EXIF data.
I'll post the original tonight. I think it was 400.
PSP, there are a few EXIF viewers; try Opanda, or do an extension search for Firefox.IPTC

replacing the 5d Already ? We may have to talk ............. againwaiting for PMA....hopefully Canon will announce the 5D successor in ~3 weeks' time.
Yeh. The original (properly exposed) IMHO had too much noise, so I used a super contrast action in PS I created to really crank on it and sort of try to incorporate it in the photo.Blue underexposed his photo pretty badly...and that doesn't do good things with regards to noise...
